Why is this not good?

“That’s one of about a dozen recruiting services we contracted with,” said Vincent of Lyles’ Complete Scouting Services.

Not really concerned with it.
Every school does it. They just needed a news story to run.

This is why it is not good
"If Lyles assisted in or was involved in the recruitment of any player to LSU, the NCAA would consider him a booster and any payment to him would be considered a violation of Bylaw 13. The rule prohibits boosters from directing a recruit to a school."

LSU paid $6,000 in December for football scouting services provided by Will Lyles, about whom a Tigers signee was interviewed last week by NCAA investigators.
Louisiana State University associate athletic director Herb Vincent said Monday the Tigers paid the money to Lyles’ business, Complete Scouting Services. Vincent said he did not know whether LSU paid Lyles in previous years.
“That’s one of about a dozen recruiting services we contracted with,” said Vincent of Lyles’ Complete Scouting Services.
This isn't going to end well. I don't care how man other schools do this.

So what did this Lyles guy do for us and Oregon exactly?

So it's against the rules to pay someone to help you recruit? That's their job. It's a recruiting service. It's not a big deal at all.
News needs stories to run and you're eating it up. Just because Auburn is going down in flames at some point doesn't mean we are.
There's a difference between paying people to come here and paying someone to get people to come here.

What are your thoughts on it being the same person that Oregon paid who could very well "go down in flames"?
Or about the fact that he has been ducking any contact from any form of authority?

You are way off the mark.
It is absolutely against the rules to pay someone to help you recruit.

recruiting service firms provide info. they're not supposed to steer players to certain schools.

Thats why I want to know exactly what this guy did for his money.

I guess I don't really understand then. They're supposed to be completely bias in gathering and providing info on certain recruits? Why can't schools just do that themselves, I don't see the point.

Didn't we pay him when he worked for Elite recruiting service or something like that. I think we use that service every year. I see nothing wrong here. We paid for a service received, nothing more.

The guy quit and went out on his own AFTER LSU dealt with him, thats when the Ducks paid him and why they will get in trouble. LSU did nothing wrong.

According to the article, if Lyles did indeed accompany your coach on a visit to Randal's high school, you would have a difficult case to make that he wasn't assisting LSU in the recruitment of a player.
If true, LSU did receive more than just his scouting services.
quote:
Hartman declined comment last week about his meeting with the NCAA investigators. But in January he told FOXSports.com that LSU defensive line coach Brick Haley accompanied Lyles to Clear Springs High last spring in a visit about Randle.
