Out of the loop and I know WOW's #1 as far as users, but is it still the best over for starting out new?

I see gameplay vids of Aion: LINK & LINK

I think this one is the best right now. But is there anything worth a crap? I see RIFT, but have been unimpressed.

I don't see rift as better than Aion, anyone play both who can give a comparison?

I saw the Starwars Gameplay, and not sure how you'd do anything else besides a Jedi class(shooting every level?). And the gameplay seems a little odd IMO: very Kotar, not sure about it LINK

I see GW2 on the horizon as well: this looks better LINK

Tried Aion did not make it out of beta.

Rift is Awesome. Extremely polished.

okay, I take it you have played both then. The graphics seems better on aion, and the flight, I thought would add another dimension; however, I read that the character development is a bit tunneled(specific skill tree).

Rift is that much better than WOW as far as game play? Oh I just saw a video in which you can customize you characters soul tree. I like that.

Aion had some great ideas, but the game just wasn't very good.

WoW is great, but it came out 7 years ago. Rift is WoW with some great new ideas and 7 years newer. There is no doubt in my mind that Rift is the best MMO to come out since WoW.

Rift is the best MMO to come out since WoW, I played Aion and got bored by level 15, it turned into a grind early.

Rift is definaetely keeping my interest more.

Which MMO has the best gameplay though... that's debatable. I still say WoW because it is the smoothest game out of all of them still. That said, WoW is over 6 years old already and is getting very stale, and pretty much every MMO that has come out since WoW, including rift, is the same style as WoW. It's clearly time for MMOs to go in a new direction.

Gaming companies have made serious mistakes by half assing their MMO's. They have had over 6 years to redefine the genre, but instead so many failed games and projects are just going to allow Blizzard to redefine the genre again when Project Titan comes out. They will own the market for another 6+ years.

Rift is a great game. The community as a whole is helpful and friendly as well. Ofc it's the internet so there are trolls and Freemarch (the starter zone) is quickly turning into the equivalent of Barrens chat, at least on Deepstrike. But the gameplay is incredibly fun once you find the right class. Rift events force interaction with other players so you make friends and leveling buddies so you don't end up just talking to nobody while you're leveling. It's really great.

I haven't really been into an MMO since EQ1 back in the day..but I am really impressed by Rift so far. The mechanics seem very smooth and the gameplay is pretty fun so far. Ran the first two dungeon instances and the second is good times for sure. Can't wait to see some of the harder group instances and raid instances to really get an idea how polished this game really is.

Third instance is easy - we ran it in 26 minutes last night. But we had an amazing group. Second instance on Guardian side (DD) is awesome.

And having played both, RIFT > Aion. The flying was fun in Aion but the grinding made it suck hard once you got to around 30. The control of the Abyss was very fun too. But just too damn grindy.

I really enjoyed DD. I was only 21 or so the first time we ran it so most of my stuff was getting mitigated to hell and back. Now that I'm up to 23/24ish, I can actually do some damage to that damn spider. That's by far one of the more fun fights I've done in this game though. Separates dumbasses from people that know what the hell is going on in a group situation. Been apart of a few wipes when the cleric gets cocooned and then the bitch goes on a melee rampage on the tank before we can burst dps the cocoon down..some things are just bad luck I guess.

What level would you be OK running around in the 3rd instance as a DPS you think? A few of our guys are getting up in the high 20s range so I figure we'll be moving that way soon.

3rd instance is typically 28+.

The spider fight is tough for sure. When we did it our cleric was constantly getting cacooned so I basically did bard healing the whole time - it was intense.

I just saw this for your question about which is better. Personally, I have never played any MMO but saw this and thought I would post it in here.

Very cool. I never played an MMO before Rift, but it has definitely sucked me in. The open beta was amazing.
