what happens if he got hurt ? What happens if he's beat out for the starting spot ? LOL. He wasn't getting any faster. He made the right choice.

are we aware of him not cutting it academically? the allegations had nothing to do with failing...
I was responding to a poster mentioning the academic issues above, just put it in the wrong response.

well when you have guys like Jacob Hester, Labrandon Toefield, Charles Scott, Justin Vincent, and Stevan Ridley who all rushed for more yards ina season than DD did, then yeah. Also, add Jospeh Addai to the list of back better than DD. I'd put our entire backfield in 2007 against DD to be honest.

You don't get it sir. You said that he could ONLY improve his draft stock with another in college. ONLY improving one's draft stock means that he CANNOT hurt his draft stock.
I never argued that he can't improve with another year. I was trying to inform you that there are also ways he can hurt and even eliminate his draft stock by doing so. Hence, you cannot say that he can ONLY improve by coming back

Dominic Davis had a good pro career until it was derailed by injury.

A Scouts Take on Ridley:
quote:
Positives: Good size, has a muscular frame... Holds onto the football, no ball security issues... Cuts well in traffic... Tough between the tackles, doesn't go down easy... Strong runner, finishes his runs well... Great leg drive, really pushes the pile... Good vision... Patient runner, lets his blockers set up in front of him... Good blocker, gets his hands into defenders... Produced at a high level against top level SEC defenses... Consistent, had a touchdown in 10 of LSU's 13 games in 2010... Should be a solid contributor on special teams units... Does a great job of always moving up field, doesn't waste much time going east/west.
Negatives: Slow, struggles to get to the edge... Won't break big plays, only had one play go for over 30 yards in his entire collegiate career... Not creative in the open field, lacks elusiveness... Not explosive... Below average receiver out of the backfield... Knee injury in 2009... Low ceiling due to his lack of speed... Likely just a short yardage back who will be used in goal line situations.

Absolutely correct. Ridley leaving early may not get drafted til the late rounds, if any. His stock isn't high at all.

from a purely athletic standpoint, there was nothing to gain by him coming back. very unlikely he betters the numbers he put up last year, and he isn't going to magically get faster w/ a year more of college football

sounds like you must be too young to remember Davis. He shared carries with Shyrone Carey, Deverey Henderson, and LaBrandon Toefield. Not to mention the 11 game schedule was still in effect.

You are overrating his stock now. He could have improved his stock by showing some ability once he gets past the LOS. As of now, he hasn't shown any skill set that separates him from the pack.
It's possible he doesn;'t get drafted.

So if he comes back and blows out his other knee and sits out the most of the season, would you say he hurt his draft stock? Not only is your opinion terrible but so are your debate skills. Go home

i'm 26. i remember davis very well. he was a backup to toefield until his senior season. that should tell you something. and no, he didn't share many carries with shyrone carey. carey didn't come around really until 2003 when davis was already gone. carey was a freshman when davis was a senior. davis was a solid back, no doubt, but no he was not the best lsu had in the decade, and quite frankly maybe not even in the top 5

this would have been the case next year as well.

Go home? And you criticize MY debating skills...
You are overrating his draft stock now. You don't come out early to possibly not get drafted. Playing another year couldn't have hurt his stock.

Right but there's a chance he does get drafted. Being draftable has a higher draft stock than if he goes back to school and blows his other knee out. hence, your delusion

He has already blown his knee out once. He needs to show something that separates him from the pack, and up to now, really hasn't. He will be a special teams player, if he makes a squad.
Tell you what chief. I am gonna bookmark this thread. Let's revisit after the draft.

if he has to split even more carries with ford and ware, then yeah it could have. he had a career year this year. coming out after a season like that when the things that hurt his draft stock aren't things he can improve upon (speed, elusiveness) then he had nothing to gain by coming back. if he doesn't get drafted and is good enough to play in the league, he'll make it. it's not like he's a guy that had the potential to sign for a huge contract if he had waited a year.

Its not terrible, now he knows what to do to run faster. No one was running a fast combine even some of the WR who were projected to have some of the fastest 40 times didnt run as well as perhaps they could have. It's not a great time but he was going to max out if he ran a low 4.6 it would have been really good. He knows what he has to look forward too I'm sure he will at least make a team even if he isnt drafted, but I think he will still be drafted
Posted on 2/27/11 at 4:23 pm to lsufball19
jm3 is right. ridley is what he is. he's not going to improve his draft stock by playing another year. he's always gonna be a borderline draftable player, and playing another year comes an added risk of getting injured and never even havingthe chance to play pro ball.

Let's see if he gets drafted and revisit this at that time.
