AT&T U-Verse is DSL based. So by definition the closer your home is to the fiber line the better the DSL will work.

As I was saying. I am less than a block from a major fiber optic line running thru Houston, so my connection is blazing.

This may apply for you as well if what you're wife is indicating is true.

It's not really offered anywhere outside of major cities at this point. Most of BR, I think NO, Houston, etc, all will have Uverse available, and it will be fast. But that's cool that you live that close to a major trunk.

The company I work for offers a FTTH, fiber to the home, network. Fiber optic cable runs from our head end, in a trunk, to a Central Office, then fiber runs from there to pedestals, and from pedestals it's fiber to the ONT on the house.. The network is amazingly fast. Internet speeds are the same at a home as they are at the COs and at the Head End. Which is why we're about to roll out IPTV..

Yeh, i've had it in Houston for almost 2 years.

Appears to just now to be spreading throughout BR. My parents had AT&T DSL, but it was completely different than U-Verse.

I pretty much make a living off of referals for U-Verse. I get $100 ATM card everytime I refer someone and then I call my AT&T rep and she hooks me up with 6 more months of HBO, Starz, Cinemax depending on which one I'm running low on. Haven't paid for HBO or Starz in 2 years. This is just kind of a hookup i have for being really polite and flirting with my AT&T rep.

If anyone reads this later down the road. You can signup to have AT&T U-Verse send you an email when the service is available in your area.
