I'm going to that new Le Creole place on Highland. Any food recommendations from people who have been there?

Also, do I need to wear slacks or will jeans suffice?

Been once ~ food was awesome. Had a hard time choosing an entree...lots of tempting choices. You should be fine in nice jeans and a button down.

the wife and I went and spent $130 including tip. it was decent, but for the money I was expecting to be blown away.

I will say that the bananas foster for dessert was probably the best I've ever had.

My wife got some rabbit loin that was overcooked, and I got the point coupee, which was a tasty fish on a bed of sweet corn sauce with lump crabmeat on top.

We got the shrimp & tasso cheesecake for app and it was okay.

I have heard other people speak well of their food, so seems like there are mixed opinions. I guess I'll find out for myself soon enough.

I've been once and was underwhelmed. Service very average and food overpriced, especially in the middle of a strip mall. Won't be back, and by the looks of the cars in the lot they won't be either.

I thought some of the food was tasty, but I don't plan on going back because of the prices. There are better options for a $100+ meal in BR

Great Ambiance - white jacketed staff, clean linens, and pressed atmosphere. Service - Proper and timely. Food - misses the mark. Can't help with directional guidance on menu choice.

Menu looks great. Everything reads like you want it all. I don't know if it's just because the place hasn't gotten its legs yet, but the food did not live up to expectations. Expectations are considerable considering the atmosphere and menu. However, I think the tongue in the kitchen does not meet the test.

Everything was just a little off. Trying too hard maybe. Too much off this, misuse of that. That being said, I'm pulling for them and will try again because I love having a grand restaurant in the neighborhood.

I have been twice- once for dinner and once for lunch. For dinner I got the fried chicken and waffles. Now that is some frickin chicken. Like the sweet potato waffles too but wasn't a fan of the syrup. For lunch spent 3.5 hours there on business and Mark was an awesome waiter. Sampled a few apps and really enjoyed some good wine. I like the place and hope it does well.

I wouldn't feel comfortable dropping $150 at a white tablecloth dining experience wearing jeans, but that's just me. Some people justify wearing jeans if they're ironed

I went last night.

The atmosphere and ambiance is pretty nice. The seating area is pretty much one large room, so it is a little noisy but I didn't mind. The servers are all dressed nice and they have bus boys who are constantly refilling your water, pre-bussing your table, getting you more bread, etc. So, I'd say the service was pretty good. You can tell they are trying to go for something similar to Juban's or Louisiana Lagniappe in term style, substance, and price.

As others have said, the food may be overpriced. For an appetizer, my wife and I split the Crawfish and Warm Goat Cheese Crepe ($9), since we are both goat cheese and crepe lovers. This one ended up being a disappointment. For one, the portion was pretty small, maybe only 3 or 4 bites for each of us. Also, the goat cheese taste was barely discernible and the crepe was over-drenched with an etoufee-like sauce that wasn't very good. More stuffing in the crepe would have helped. The only good thing I can say about it was that it looked very well presented on the plate.

For the entree, I got the Herb Paneed Rabbit Loin ($24). This rabbit was served over cracked corn polenta, which was superb and probably the best polenta I've ever had. There was also wilted greens and a crawfish and tasso cream on the polenta which were good complements to the dish. The rabbit loin was pretty tasty too. I thought they should have breaded it a little less so you can focus on the rabbit more, but it was still good. Overall, the dish was a winner and I thought the price was reasonable.

My wife got the Tasting of Creole Louisiana fish special ($30). This was grilled halibut, jumbo shrimp, and blue crap over sweet corn and herbs with a champagne butter sauce. This dish wasn't very impressive. I thought the portion could have been bigger for the price and the overall the dish was too bland. The champagne butter wasn't very helpful in adding flavor and the fish by itself was not very flavorful. The dish wasn't bad by any means, but for a $30 fish dish, I expect to be wowed and this didn't come close.

Overall, I guess the place is pretty hit-or-miss. It is trying to be an upper end restaurant establishment, but the food quality/consistency isn't there right now. I may be a little biased because I have never been fond of the higher priced, upscale restaurants like Jubans, Mansurs, etc. The increase in food quality isn't always commensurate with the increase in price and the portions are often reduced from what you get a more moderately priced place. Sorry Le Creole, I'll stick with Louisiana Lagniappe FTW.

Great review, and thanks! There's something rewarding about people posing questions here, then following it up with their experience.

We went Tuesday night for dinner. I did lunch with friends a few weeks ago and we were very impressed. This time was good, but I agree with other posters that some dishes are partial misses. I was chalking the mistakes up to it being post Valentines hangover in the kitchen. Now I'm not so sure. We took a friend, so we were 3 at dinner. Started with the crawfish cornbread. Just okay. Needed a sauce or something. Won't order again, even though the waiter raved. He was nice, but definitely not trained, with no wine knowledge at all. We all ordered a salad. DO NOT DO THIS! The salads are ridiculously huge, plate-sized concoctions. Loved the wedge. Also tasted the Caesar (good) and heirloom tomato (they were served too chilled, and on a bed of balsamic, making it difficult to toss and eat.) I got the bunny. It was a little tough, but well cooked, and I love polenta and greens. I didn't like the crawfish cream sauce. It overwhelmed the dish and tasted like it had velveeta in it. Mr. Grits got the filet, medium rare. It was good, but very raw in the middle. The diced potatoes were drenched in salt and the asparagus was diced, so the flavor was lost. Our friend got the BBQ shrimp. Interestingly served, sliced longitudinally in half to make them easier to eat. The one I tasted had too much black pepper, and I love pepper. I think I missed the sauce. She said she loved them. We skipped dessert, but had the bread pudding on our previous visit, and it was delicious. I think I'll think of it more as a really nice lunch place. I do like having another choice on this side of town. Gonna have trouble competing with Ruffino's across the street.
