Just curious but i was thinking that he was smaller then that? I was thinking he was more 270.. maxing out around 280?
Not doubting his strength at all and he was one hell of an athlete. he came up in a comparison of times conversation that i had with someone and it was crazy to think that he would probably be the smallest lineman in our two deep last year.
It would also be amazing to see what he could have done with the facilities that LSU now has.

Trindon Holliday?
Pound for pound...gotta be!

Kevin Steltz and Shawn Jordan (both FBs) have to rank way up there in strength. Rickey Jean Francois could lift a lot of weight, too.
Pound for pound, Kevin Faulk and Trindon Holliday were impressively strong.

I've got to think FB Kevin Steltz, Craig's brother. He benched 655 and squatted over 800. He was a bull.

The facilities wouldnt have mattered. When he signed his initial contract with Detroit he was 295. When he ran that 4.89, he was at 8% bodyfat......the guy was the biggest genetic freak I have ever seen.
BTW, when he squated north of 700, it was not a pussy squat......it was official quality: down low.
Gotta realize that if he carried the fat some college lineman do today, he would have weighed 330.....at 6'2". Sported a 22" neck and wore a size 62 coat.
I knew him personally and even had audience with Chris Spielman. According to Chris, he was the most powerful opponent he had ever come across. THAT is strong.
No offense to Steltz or Jordan (both crazy strong), but strength is only as good as it is functional.

Nonsense. I now present to you, the greatest athlete in the history of the human race: LINK.

But, could he play football?

Moffitt's guys doing combo deadlift/bench presses.
how is this even possible

He probaly was not the strongest but Ford already had his bench and squat max higher than the avg LSU football player when he signed.

Well then whose strength, has increased the most. I am not questioning Moffit, but most LSU players do terrible lifting at the NFL combines. This is just a fact. Which players have improved the most under his program?

its all relative...
A 180lbs. DB that benches 350 is stronger than a 300lbs. DT that benches 450...
Agreed. Ford, who is around 205 lbs, is reputedly the strongest guy pound for pound on the team, with a bench press in the 450# range last summer. In Football, tendon strength is one of those attributes that is looked for but not necessarily tracked statistically. The old term "country strong" alludes as much to toughness and attitude as the ability to manhandle someone. A guy like Lavalais, Williams or Dorsey may not be bench-pressing 500 lbs, yet they're able to have their way on the interior. The right combination of strength , agility, leverage, explosiveness and attitude is what creates the beast. Watch Freak Johnson and this is what you'll see.

Disagree. I'd say a 6'4" 320-lb OG that benches 405 is stronger on the field than a 5'11" 195-lb SS that benches 435. All that size and momentum means more than your bench max when you actually collide on the field.

Yep. And it's not like LSU is known for superior cardio conditioning either.

bencher is beinching, spotter is deadlifting.
they also do phone book benches which is almost a two board. you take a guy with short arms, he can throw an easy 100# over his raw max on a two board.

Kyle Williams still overcoming size with superior strength.

Why is the NFL combine regarded as the end-all-be-all of physical fitness for these guys?
LSU incorporates a ton of olympic lifts. Basically the exact opposite of the (one) lift they do at the combine.. the bench press, which is done with the shittiest form available.
If they moved to 315 lb bench press or DBs you'd get a much better showing from LSU athletes.
