Undercover Boss

So I've watched pretty much every episode, and something I find very strange is that every employee that the undercover boss comes across just starts spilling their guts about whatever horrible thing is going on in their lives, and it's usually extremely sappy...seems odd

They aren't going to air the stories that are "yeah, pretty good."
They're going for the heartstrings.

But even if they were very selective about who they aired, that's still 4 or 5 a show...it would seem odd if more than a couple of people started spilling their guts about their child's brain tumor, or their mother sexually abusing them to some complete random person they met a couple of hours earlier

I never watch this show, but just happened to catch a bit tonight and I came in just as some woman was tying in her views on tips to her daughter's death. Seemed pretty forced and scripted.

You do understand that "Reality TV" isn't actual reality - regardless of how it's presented.
My wife wanted to watch this show, and we have, but even she is bored with it.
The premise to okay to me, but the implementation is not so good. With that in mind, I'm sure it'll be on the air in the same format for 8 more years.
All the while, shows like "The Good Guys" get canceled.

this.
It amazes me how many people actually think all these reality shows are "real"

I liked it more when the people were fricking up under the bosses watch.

Once they've done that show a few times, you have to wonder how undercover the boss is. A middle-aged white guy and a bunch of TV cameras show up to do an entry level job? Seems a little obvious.

exactly. 1st season i could see how they got away with but by now most people should at least know the show exist.
i liked the show a bit at first, but it just became way too repititive.

I don't think it's scripted per se, but I think supervisors from the different places identify certain workers with touching background stories, then maybe they're told to talk about their story on camera in hopes of helping other people.
But seriously, how long are they going to be able to send old white men with wigs and a beard to factories with cameras under the guise of hey we want you to choose which one is the better worker. The 70 year old white man who can't bend over or the 25 year old former personal trainer.
And how shitty is that guy's job? Oh sweet, you want me to be on a tv show? What do I have to do? Clean septic tanks and handle pissed off customers on the phone? Well that kinda sucks, but at least I'll get to be on tv. Oh wait I don't get to be on tv?

the best example of someone messing up is when the hooters CEO went undercover and one of the managers made the hooters girls eat a plate full of beans with their hands tied behind their backs
