I understand they are making a movie and tv series with Ron Howard at the helm. I loved these books as a kid and even though the story got sloppy towards the end, I still appreciate all it's glory. Do you think Big Ron can pull this off? Who would play Roland? I might get shot for this, but I say the guy from Justified...Timothy Olyphont.

I'm leery about one movie, 5 or six episodes then 2 more movies to wrap up a the whole series.

Seems like they will be cutting out more than half of the material.

I hope he can pull it off, but not sure network tv is a suitable spot for this to work.

Great in theory, but NBC Universal has it. So show would be on NBC(where it would be terrible) or hopefully USA or SyFy

its best suited for HBO, so its a disappointment

Seems like it just has to be Viggo.

I like Viggo...but what about his age? Watch Justified...I see Roland every time he holds a gun. Tim showed the good and evil side of a gunslinger in Deadwood. This quality will be important for any actor who is to play Roland...

I wanna know who is gonna play the raping demon. I hope it's Danny devito. That would be awesome.

His age? Roland really isn't very young. I think viggo fits pretty well in the age department.

The word is it's either Viggo or Javier Bardem. Whichever will agree to the long term commitment.

Gotta go with Viggo.

How did y'all feel about the ending to the series. I won't post spoilers, but I was disappointed.

That is the kind of ending that would normally send me into fits of rage.

For some reason it did not.

I initially refused to read the last 3 books after I heard about the King character but during my stay in Houston after Katrina, I was bored to death so I read the final 3 books and was surprised how much I liked them.

However, I do understand people that don't like the ending. I'm just not one of them which is surprising.

I'm in the middle of the drawing of the three right now. Anyway I think Viggo should play Roland

I liked the ending....just thought it was rushed in the last book...the ending was the best way for the story to end/restart...I wonder if king had the ending planned out from the start? My favorite of all the books is Wizards and Glass hands down...

I actually think it was the only way it could have ended satisfactorily. I really liked the VERY end. The last 10% of the last book was a little too deux ex machina for me.

Without question, Wizard and Glass is the best book. The other 6 books are arguably not that good at all. Which might make one wonder why the hell I read them in the first place.

the 1st book (unrevised version) is my favorite...wizard and glass a close 2nd.

King rushed the last 3 books and it showed, particularly Randall Flagg's fate.

I did like the ending, though. Any other ending wouldn't have been right. King probably knew how it would end the moment he started writing the first book.

I am a fan of this series and looking forward to seeing the adaptation to film and television. I think the most difficult characters to cast will be Susannah and Cort. If they mess up Cort I will hate it. He is my favorite char.

There's also rumblings of Christian Bale as Roland.....

LINK

I definitely think he could pull it off, but in real life he seems to be such a tool that I have a hard time getting excited about it.

I barely even remember that.
