So I am looking to get another dog. I want another lab but my wife wants a beagle. Would this be a mistake? I had one when I was little and that dog was nothing but trouble. Anyone ever had good experiences with beagles?

If you live in Nola, I think a beagle would be pretty miserable. Those things want to run all day.

yes, wonderful experiences with beageles,,,, BUT, they were out in the beagle pen, and we used em to rabbit hunt every Saturday from about this time of year, after deer season. As a kid, that was one of my jobs, to feed the dogs, the beagle pen, and the red bones and blue tick, deer dog pen.. Personally, I don't think I would want one as just a pet..

I have a huge back yard and I hunt a lot so running wont be a problem. I am more worried about the barking and the fact that my old beagle use to get in so much trouble

Beagles are awesome dogs. Not the brightest, but very trainable. The only problem with hounds is the baying and barking. That shits in their blood, and its LOUD.

I like most hunting dogs, but hounds need owners with tolerant ears.

If you want a smaller dog, consider a terrier... Border, JR, West Highland, etc.

Or... if you can find a Mountain Feist, they are great smaller dogs too.

They bark all night and day. They dig out if there's any room at all where they can do it. And if they can't, they climb over. And they're hard headed as hell.

I love beagles. But strictly for hunting.

I love em. Had one named Preacher. Great with kids but hated anyone in uniform, e.g., postal workers, UPS, Federal Express.

First thing he did in the morning was cold trail which is not a desirable trait. But he was loyal, beautiful and.....well....our dog.

I've raised rabbitt beagle since I was a little kid. I love em. But like most hounds they're pretty dumb and like to bark.
