I'm asking for an opinion on what the LAW should be...

Why is that even a question?

Because it's not a good idea to blindly accept what some idiot in Baton Rouge decided to put on a sheet of paper.

you actually think you want the age dropped to a lower one

I haven't offered an opinion one way or the other.

The law is fine as it is. 18 year olds shouldn't be getting BJs from 14 year-olds.

why to deflect. Answer the question, should we have been jailing married couples that had oral sex because it was illegal?

The point is just because its "THE LAW" doesn't make it right necessarily. And besides its really Legislation, but that's a different topic.

I am frankly amazed (and quite a bit sad) that there are so many people on here stating that it's ok for a child to consent to sex; it's not. A child is not emotionally or intellectually ready to make such a decision and, as someone stated earlier in this thread, society has an obligation to protect children.

i am frankly amazed and a little saddened that so many people think a 14 year old High School student is a child the same way say an 8 year old is a child. And that an 18 year old HS student is a adult, just like a 28 y/old just because it says so in some legislation some where.

I would say 18 is a pretty good age for adult consequences. Certainly old enough to understand what he should and shouldn't be doing.

Basically, like you were saying, if this goes to court its just going to get "Romeo & Juliet"ed out the arse, and since they are both in highschool that will be upheld in court.

If you want to be pissed off at someone, get pissed at your school system, who puts 14 year olds and 18 year olds in the same school.

Besides, in teenage sex cases, if the age difference is within three years its legal. That is the law. But you guys are wanting to throw the book at someone who will likely be 15 with him being 18 still by the time it might hit court?

God, I hate all of you.

Is it within the law for a 16 year old to get a blowjob from a 14 year old? Can the 14 year old give consent to that?

how do you figure she will age and Hill will just magically stay the same age? As if that makes a difference in the eyes of the law anyway.

Do you know the birthdays of the people involved? Isn't there a chance he turns 19 before she turns 15?

He hasn't been charged with anything yet. A friend of mine who goes to rhs told me the girl was bragging about it on facebook. He said she's a a little attention whore. Don't assume things. Sure it happened and it's not a good thing, but if the girl screamed rape if it actually wasn't she should be in trouble too

It certainly wouldn't fall under the crime Hill is being charged with

Can a 14 year old consent to give a 16 year old a blowjob? Just wondering what the law is in this instance and if such a child would be "protected" from "consenting" to sex.

9th grade is for 14 year olds going on 15, and 12th graders are 17 year olds going on 18 commonly. from there its easy to figure the girl is alot closer to 15 than he is to 19.

The LINE has to be drawn somewhere no matter how arbitrary. We all know where that line is. Cross it and you do so at your own peril.

FIFY

In fact I've seen it posted on this board that he is pretty close to 19 due to the usual Louisiana HS football shaninagans. I'm not sure what his age though so I'll only deal with the facts and that is he is 18 and she is 14 now

why to deflect
It's not a deflection. Your argument about sodomy laws is a strawman and you claim I'm the one deflecting

To answer your question: Yes, the police would have had every right to arrest someone for performing those illegal activities. If that happened today you, I, and probably most on here would be appalled, probably so much that we would seek to change the law (which is why I suggested you contact your congress person).

Strangely enough I see no real outrage (outside of a few of you message board Knights) over the fact that society has deemed it not ok for an 18 year old to have sexual contact with a 14 year old. But hey, if it is so morally reprehensible to you that the law is structured that way, by all means, take it up with your elected officials.

This is America!

ETA: Oh yeah, and I'm sorry that I ever posted in this thread. Back to lurking for me.
