Planned on hiking into an area called the basin today with snowshoes but we had over a dozen avalanches in town on Thurs and the snow is unstable. Drove down Thane Rd about a mile south of downtown and took these. One avalanche shut off this road and buried it under about 20 feet of snow. Crews did a great job of clearing it.

Don't take this the wrong way or anything but your pictures kind of make me want to punch you in the face.

I have spent the better half of the morning looking at all these pics. Awesome! To all of you and Roger you are making it hard for me not to just up and move to Alaska and be able to see that every day!

You never get tired of it... Weather has sucked the last month, hoping to get a break soon so we can get out and hike in the higher elevations.
I have trips planned to Tracy Arm/Fords Terror Wilderness area, Admiralty Island (fortress of the bears) and Berners Bay planned within the next month. Hopefully weather will allow it.
Going to be in La later this year to for less than stellar reasons, but hope to get some bass fishing in when I do. Lots of great pix from my native state in this thread too.

Oh absolutely there are. I 'd for everyone. I grew up in NE LA in flat farm land where the highest point was an overpass. While it is home to me...I have a passion for mountains for some reason. I will make it there one day.

I used to have a lot of pix of Caddo Lake. Beautiful place in it's own right.

You and me both brother. When I was a kid growing up in La I used to dream about the mountains. Got lucky and found a place where I have mountains and sea.

Take a long, extended road trip out west.

Never went there but my uncle had a camp on Bistineau (sp?) and I went there as a kid all the time. Very pretty there.

I'd say you have. If I took a long extended ride out west, I might not drive back

Yeah, Lake Bistineau is beautiful in it's own right. I brought a girl who grew up in Colorado and Alaska there for a visit and she loved it, thought it was very unique.

Happens to lots of folks. I had never been here before I picked it out on a map and decided to move here. You know when you are home.

I really like looking at pics of other places. Geography is something I enjoy as well as travel, and love maps and photos of other areas.
