the season series was 1-1
flukes happen in 1-game series. it's the nature of the beast
the pro-playoff crowd creates sayings like, "they won when it mattered" or "they proved they belonged" when these flukes happen. guys like me who favor a limited playoff see these games as flukes that should be minimized

The only way to eliminate flukes would be having playoff series, like the NBA playoffs, which are impossible in Football.
ETA: I guess you are saying that you eliminate the flukes with the regular season. But then you get into arguments with weak divisions/conferences.
