It's really too bad that football is too brutal for playoff series - the best format for determining a champion.

yeah i discussed that in my articles on it
you rarely see major upsets in 7-game series in basketball. they happen, but they're rare
baseball is different b/c you can build a team for the playoffs with pitching choices
football is fricked b/c they can only play 1 game per week, so they have to rely on the underdog-creating 1-game series

True. But the sports that do use series, they let way too many teams (NBA, MLB) in. They play 162 and 82 games respectively but still let a shitload of teams in the playoffs.
