Would like some reviews and opinions from ya'll on the H&R 45-70 handi rifle. I've been looking for the H&R 444, but it seems like every place I went to in Baton Rouge were out of stock, all they have in stock is the 45-70. Thanks.

45-70 is an awesome roun for whitetail now that it is legal during primitive weapon season. i highly recommend the caliber.

Excellent rig. I've sighted in plenty of em and they all shoot around an inch group at 100 yards, and an inch is two bullets touching side by side with that big bastard. I highly recommend them to everybody in LA.

It kicks like a pissed off plow mule. Killed a coyote with one last year, it was about the same as shooting a poodle with a rocket launcher

ETA: 1/2 inch is two bullets touching side by side. My bad. You get the point though.

Don't try to be a hero when sighting it in Also make sure your scope rings are rock solid as the recoil can mess with your zero as I found out a box of shells and a bruised shoulder later. One shot at an animal isn't bad but more than five rounds in a row and you will need a shoulder replacement.

Academy has the best prices so far. They are $230. But like I said Academy is the only store to have H&R 45-70. Called Cabela's and they said Remington bought H&R out and they are not getting any 444 or 45-70 until contract is finalized.

That price seems about right. I found mine used at Cabelas(with a scope) for $200.
