i think even the biggest of positigers would agree that $5M per year for miles is pretty insane

IF this rumor is true, i'm guessing alleva is making the gamble that he'd rather risk trying to raise $1M more per year extra from the booster than risk having the burden/legend of actually hiring the next coach at LSU

it just seems irrational and illogical to be offering les miles $5M per year

3.75 is too much for Les. If he offered that same salary to Mullen, Patterson, or Pelini and he'd one of em.

Yes, it is.

Really? Why does he need an extra million. I know UM won't offer him that much.

It is a joke to give him that much. But to keep this class together, it's almost worth it.

Miles knows this and so does his agent. Thus, he wants more money.

perhaps he's made all the calls and is down to the bottom third of potential candidates.

I don't think LSU should offer him 5 mil a year. I do think it would be appropriate to offer him 5 mil if he brings another NC to BR.

No way.

He just doesn't want the class to fall apart and is weighing things.

pretty much. thats why i dont think he'll completely draw a line in the sand and say "this is as much as we'll pay..." b/c he doesnt want to be put on the spot and have the pressure to nail the hire. if hes in that position- its going to have to be b/c miles wanted to go home

Maybe he thinks that keeping Miles, both financially and for long-term, is the best option because the odds of getting a sure thing is minimal and we don't have the luxury of time to ask every single coach whether they want to start the negotiation process. Or maybe he's just trying to position LSU so that other coaches realize the type of money we can offer a coach that would come here and win?

Honestly I don't know because, like most on this board, we don't even know the real details to what is going on in relation to Michigan and Miles. All conjecture at this point.

if les is going to UM, as is, the only way LSU can keep him is by upping his salary to $5-6M per

Who's to say what is too much? You writing that check chief? Things like years and buyout mean more to me than the base amount.

I think you are missing the biggest piece of the puzzle.

I think the raise is going to coincide with a restructuring of the contract to limit the buyout and rollover clauses that give LSU the biggest problems. The raise, in part, will be compensation for that.

Belowpar indicated that this was in the works weeks ago.

i think this is the exponential worry

$5M per means an even more insane buyout and even less money for assistant coaches

It's been said we're looking for a more reasonable buyout Jake
