2007:

-Damn strong team
-I represent me
-I am the coach at LSU and I will be the coach of LSU
-There will be no questions
-I'm busy
-Have a great day
-Finger gun

Damn, that was an excellent presser.

As for today, who did he keep shifting his eyes towards? I hear it was his wife in the back of the room.

Les' press conference that you referenced came after ESPN came out stating he had taken the UM job...the same day his "damn strong team" was playing in the SECCG. There were many pressers leading up to that one that everyone seems to forget, that have MUCH more in common with THIS one. Apples to oranges...

I think so as well. The reason I ask is because Scott Rabalais referenced the 2007 presser and his wife's reaction afterwards when saying he was positive Les would go to Michigan if offered.

He said after the 2007 presser, Kathy Miles broke down crying and someone went to console her and he overheard her saying something to the affect that he put his team before himself.

He said that did it for him and that is why he feels if Les gets the shot this time around...he's gone.

I think LSU is better off with Les, especially given this timing...but I would hate for Les to pass on the opportunity if it is there and then regret it later in life.

The situations cannot be compared. They are not similar at all.

Yeah, I think Les might be better for us for the short term as in next year IF WE GOT A NEW OC, but long term I think it is in the best interest of both parties for Miles to go to Michigan.

Les would likely take the UM job if he were to be offered.

However, he won't be offered. End of story.

This all depends on who his replacement would be...a nosedive could also be in order.

How do you know this? Are you just speculating?

Well, that settles it. Chicken, shut this board down!

Seriously though, you may be right...but if UM hasn't announced a replacement by kickoff Friday night, all bets would be off.

Well, that is true. I don't even know who the hell I'd want to take over this program in terms of reasonable expectations. I'd love to get Patterson from TCU, but that isn't happening.

This. Today's press conference was a general 'hey! we're in the Cotton Bowl!' one. In '07, it was called specifically to address ESPN reports that CLM had accepted the UM job.

I don't think UM has contacted anyone seriously (save Harbaugh) yet. I DO think that UM's admin were arrogant enough to think that they could can RR after the 1st without contacting anyone on their 'short list' ahead of time to see if said coach(es) were interested.

Now that it appears Harbaugh isn't fully onboard and is looking seriously at the NFL, UM is going to 'plan b', which is probably not even drawn up just yet.

This doesn't mean that I think CLM would turn down UM if offered the job, nor would I blame him if he took it (I'd have a hell of a hard time saying no the LSU).

I simply think UM is doing their typical "we're still the shite" BS they did three years ago and are woefully behind in the actual mechanics of a coaching search.

IF they offer CLM, I believe he'll take a pretty in-depth look at the situation (and contract) before bolting...he's got it pretty good here, both his contract AND the talent he's recruited (and is recruiting).

I also do not think CLM is their 'plan b'. I think he's about 'plan e' as far as the AD's office is concerned. And if it's true that Carr is going to be even MORE involved in this new hire for UM, CLM's probably 'plan z and then only if someone has blackmail pictures of me'.

im not so sure i agree with your short term assessment. these "breakups" are never timely nor convenient. theres always going to be a "but so and so will be a senior...." i say cut the cord. make it fast. make it as fast as possible and lets both move on with our programs and lives.

Patterson seems to be locked in at TCU and with them joining the Big East, he's guaranteed a BCS game every year for the near future.

I think at Pelini return would be likely...

Ugh, not so sold on him. It really amazed me how quick the majority of the LSU fanbase was able to praise him after he had some moderate success at Nebraska, because a ton of the fanbase hated him while he was here.

I wouldn't mind Jack Del Rio.

Neither am I, but I hear he was pretty well liked by those in the administration (although not all the same faces) and I think he would likely initiate contact.

At this point in the year, he may be the safest and best bet.

You might be right. I wish Muschamp was still available. He would've been the perfect hire IF Miles bolts.
