The dialogue sucked and they didn't need to be flashy. Fast light saber fights don't build tension IMO

agreed, but i love the fast lightsaber sequence in the phantom menace...they didn't have a fast lighstaber battle on tattooine so I was disappointed when I realized it would be a staple of the series

Badass villain.

The Plinkett review says it all about this one though.

yoda's fight scene in clone wars was pretty cool. especially with the buildup of what a good warrior he was.

it's completely soulless though. Lightsaber duels should be more about the characters than just flashy heavily choreographed fights.

And you owe it to yourself to see Red Letter Media's review of it. If it doesn't change your opinion on the film not being terrible, then I'm sorry but you are a fricking idiot. His logic is flawless and is absolutely hilarious. All you have to do is type "Phantom Menace Review" and you'll find it.

That in my opinion was the single biggest mistake was to have Yoda and the Emperor yield lightsabers. It takes away from both characters and both should be above using a lightsaber. Yoda never even trains Luke with a lightsaber and the Emperor doesn't speak highly of the lightsaber in the original trilogy, so why are they using them in the prequels? Their force power should be enough just to crush their opponents, whether they are weilding lightsabers or not.

REALLY? out of the entire cluster frick that was all three prequels the single biggest mistake was that yoda and the emperor had a light saber fight?

agree to disagree?

Yoda more so than the Emperor, I don't mind the fight so much, but it's just Yoda bouncing around and depleting all his teachings to Luke. If they had a pure psychic showdown, which was sort of how the end of their duel was, this wouldn't be a problem. If Vader can choke someone, the Emperor or Yoda should be able to make someone's heart explode with little to no effort.

yeah just anyone's heart explode should be no problem; but someone just as powerful in the force as you would be way more difficult. force powers cancel each other out for the most part soooo..... light saber fight. you think when jedis get to a certain level they just put their light saber in the closet?

They should. Luminous beings are they, not this crude matter.

Umm no. Yeah the Emperor and Yoda's force was powerful enough to make sure they couldn't do that to each other, but at no point should they have withdrawn a lighsaber. I mean only a very brief part of the fight they do, and it's just ridiculous. The rest of the fight/good part is when they are solely using the Force against one another. Palpatine shouldn't have had to withdraw his lightsaber with Windu and co. either and taken them down solely with the force to show how much powerful he is than the other Jedi. And Yoda should have certainly never taken on Dooku.

I've never liked the plot hole of Yoda being a damn cat squirrel in Clones and RoTS at 800 years old and at 820 years old in Empire being decrepit.

I watch it whenever its on. It's such a colossal train wreck it's hard to look away. Entertaining for all the wrong reasons, really too bad MST3K never got their hands on it.

anyone else really conflicted by this movie?

Hated it for the same reason I hated Avatar. I don't care how cool the visuals, they don't make up for shitty storytelling. The first Star Wars worked b/c immediately after a great opening speial effects scene, i was given a villain that was both intriguing and easy to hate, and characters i could indentify with and cared about. I think i went through the entire prequel without caring about one damn character (especialy Anakin- the introducing him as a freaking ten year old was huge mistake and by the time the second one got going, i cared s much about anakin as those annoying douchebags on Dawson's creek. South Par was spot on with lucas and spielberg raping indiana jones, and lucas bitch slapped three of my fvorite movies.

Off my sopabox now. Damn that felt good.
