He mostly mentions things from the mid to late 90s, but I never thought about it, but it is. This is when most of us NBA fanatics got hooked to the league.

1. Gregg Popovich, Phil Jackson and Jerry Sloan These three wise men are among the best coaches in history, but they might be even better entertainers. All three have reached basketball infallibility and are so comfortable with what they have given the game that they just say the darnedest things. Whether it is Jerry Sloan telling the media that no one wants to see players out there “jackpotting around” or Pop dropping a “Geez, oh wiz” in a post-game rant, or Phil meowing at his players, there will never again be an Old Man’s Club quite like this ever again.

Good. The 1990s NBA was a horrible era for basketball. The only good things about the NBA back then was the NBA on NBC and Michael Jordan. Besides that, it sucked.

What the hell does that Peja thing have to do with the 90s NBA?

false.
the 90's were awesome. the dream teams, the ending of magic/bird careers, hakeem and the rockets back-to-back, stockton/malone/hornaceck and the jazz, shaq bringing the rim down, reggie miller/knicks, young AI, kobe, penny, hill, etc etc I could go on forever

It was a watered down era for basketball. The '80s was so much stronger, it's not even funny. It's only recently that the NBA is finally starting to get better again with a lot of young budding stars across the league.

Completely disagree, the 90's was a great era for the NBA

On court basketball was better in the 90's.
However presentation of games is much better now, but that really goes without saying.

the 80's were better, it doesnt mean the 90's sucked.
there was Jordan and then a lot of other great super stars.
the 80's was pretty top heavy. Great rivalries, with the same old teams.
i dont see how the 90's was watered down. Every year a diffrerent team was challenging the bulls, not only in the East, but in the finals.
in the 80s it was LAL and BOS, with a little DET and PHI mixed in. Top heavy. If anything, after the top teams, the rest of the league was watered down in the 80's.

Good God no.
About the league being "watered down" -- that wasn't the case at all. Sure, there was one consistently elite team throughout the decade, but there was a lot of talent league-wide. People often point to the emphasis on defense as evidence the product wasn't good, but it was more of a reflection of the NBA becoming a big man's league -- Hakeem, Ewing, Robinson, Shaq, Duncan later, Malone, Kemp. This era and the '80s has/had more elite wing players (scorers), which is more exciting for casual fans to watch.

I don't know about you but I prefer to be able to read graphics that are brought up on screen and to be able to clearly see what's going on on the court. Maybe you prefer blurry picture and hard to read infographics.

This thread is about the '90s; not the '70s.

if you watch some of the original broadcasts of games from 91 and 92 and then compared it to broadcasts of today, you notice the differences. Goes for all sports really.

What you see on YouTube is not how it appeared back then. Videos degrade over time. The only thing that's significantly better is the score overlay consistently being on the screen.
Otherwise, we're stuck with the shite ESPN/ABC brings us -- Pussy Cat Dolls intros, highlight videos with crappy rap songs, an overabundance of sponsorships filling telecasts, Stuart Scott, Al Michaels, numerous technical errors during telecasts (they've gotten better with this), general inconsistencies with their presentation, etc.

Agreed, The NBA on NBC was superior to what ESPN presents

I overlook/ignore most of that stuff anyways. I meant with the actual in game information/broadcast. We have more/better camera angles now which I personally like.
But speaking of Stuart Scott, does anyone dislike him as much as I do? The guy acted like he was this badass for so long and that he was just like the athletes he covered. Then when it came time for him to show any sort of athletic acumen, he fricks up his eye. You'd think he would learn his lesson, but nope, he does the same shitty schtick to make himself sound cooler and acts cocky around athletes who shite more athleticism than he has.
