Why do they hate LSU so much. They really are not even our rivals that much. I just don't understand all the hatred. Seems like everytime I go to New Orleans there is some guy hating on LSU and pumping Tulane. How could one live in Louisiana and not be an LSU fan?

I would take those over the people who live here and blindly hate LSU because the state is obsessed. What a sad excuse to not support your state school!

Maybe they're somehow affiliated with the university?
I expirience the same thing when I go back home in Lafayette. It's mostly a penis envy kinda thing because no university has the degree of power that LSU has. Everthough Tulane has a better academic standing, their athletics suck and don't have near the size or funds that is granted to LSU.

LSU has better funding and better perks than Tulane does. It's that way with every other college in LA. Nicholls hates LSU because their stadium is empty for football games because all the students and fans are watching LSU. The price of being a flagship university is being hated by everyone else.

I know that I don't hate Tulane even though I am a die hard LSU fan. I will even root for them when they go to the CWS as long as LSU is not in it with them.

the only reason they could be jealous is because of our athletic program. other than that, i don't see any reason.

From the way I have heard it explained in the past, in the old days (1940s-60s), if you lived in Louisiana and your family had money, you went to Tulane. Many people in that time period looked at LSU as a poor man's university. I heard this from my uncle who attended Tulane.
It reminds me of a banner I saw hanging in the Superdome when LSU went there to face Tulane in 1985. The banner read: "You will not find any AGRI in our CULTURE." I think that leads more credence to that belief ... subsequent generations have probably been taught to believe that way ... much the same way that LSU fans have magically become "corn dogs" over the past few years just because some Alabama and Auburn fans believed it should be that way.
Living in Alabama now, I do not hear that story from the Alabama graduates that I know, but the Auburn graduates (who graduated in the 1960s) always bring that fact out ... that when they were in school, LSU always had overcrowded classrooms because it was a "poor man's university" and anyone could get in - which is why they attended Auburn.
Not trying to start anything here ... just reporting what I have heard most of my life.

It is not penis envy at all. I think the main reason (true or untrue) is that the majority of Tulane fans think that LSU goes at it athletically the wrong way....They worry about athletics first and academics .. not so much ... They also think that LSU breaks the rules to get where they are ... IMHO LSU is not unlike the majority of big time college athletic programs but I guess since it is the closest geographically to most Tulane fans (they are inundated with LSU news on a daily basis) that they have grown to hate them because in their belief they have achieved things the wrong way...
I have seen it first hand .. guys who grew up huge LSU fans and marry into Tulane families and now can not stand them for the reason that I mentioned. They say that they have seen the light and have no idea how they could have pulled from them earlier in life.
I am not trying to flame at all - just giving you guys reasons why the hate exists...

I had uncles who played baseball for Tulane, and they're both LSU fans, FWIW.

Prior to Tulane Stadium being torn down and a few years after, LSU-TU was a HUGE rivalry. It's hard to imagine that now, but it was indeed. The rivalry was intense on both sides, even though at one point, LSU held a 25+ year winning streak. The 1971 or 1972 TU 14-0 victory at Tulane Stadium intensified it, along with Tulane winning 3 of 4 in the late early 80's. All week long before the game, people chose sides in the NOLA area. Believe it or not, MANY chose Tulane. Of course, many chose LSU as well. I remember clearly all us kids choosing sides in grammar school for the few years I was there. AFter that and with the Dome, the rivalry was all downhill. The second worst thng TU did for football was moving off campus to The Superdome. The first, of course, was leaving the SEC.
I remember going on a rented bus from a bar to the game with my dad in the very early 80's and Tulane somehow won 48-7. The Dome was nuts on both sides. It was pretty passionate. I also was fortunate to see LSU win by almost the same score in the Dome a few years before. It was also just as passionate at Tiger Stadium.
I believe if TU was to build a 35-50K outdoor stadium on campus, the program would be worthwhile again. They had very respectable attendance at Tulane Stadium and many were season ticket holders. I am not a rabid TU fan, but I think that would be great.

I didn't know that Tulane had fans.
Posted on 12/30/10 at 12:26 am to DlineU
Theyre just upset their fan support/numbers are diminishing, while LSU's is having the opposite effect. Tulane used to have a decent fan base, but now LSU's women's basketball fanbase is larger than Tulane's entire athletic support system. The Tulane fan is an endangered species.

Why do they hate LSU so much
They have no reason to cheer for their own pathetic teams. It's more entertaining to root for LSU's opponents than to sit in their 80+% empty venues to see Toolame lose to other bottom-feeders.

You have the uncanny misfortune of encountering 1 of the same 20 or so sadsacks. Don't worry about that problem. Their dwindling fanbase has a microscopic # of fans less than 40. Once the Baby Boomer fans are all dead or too decrepit to talk smack, there won't be any Green Weenies left to hassle you.

Many Tulane students aren't even from Louisiana.

LSU is 45-4 vs. Tulane since 1950.
Sorry, but that doesn't bring out much hate for Tulane from me and you don't get much more die hard than me.

During the LSU-Florida game this year we watched the game at the NOLA Bulldog (Mid-City). Some Tulane students showed up decked out in Florida gear, would constantly walk over to our table and gator chomp, and kept trying to tell everyone around that they were getting a "real education" at Tulane.

Easily. Before I came to LSU, I didn't care about its athletic program. Didn't hate it, but didn't care.
