Mad Hatter - The History of the Term

According to the History Channels "Pawn Stars", the term mad hatter was coined back in the 1800's for hat makers. The process involved the use of mercury in unventilated rooms. During the drying process, the mercury was dispersed in the air and inhaled by the hat maker. Mercury would rot their teeth, destroy their nervous system, and make them go crazy or "mad". Most died by the time they were 40. Thought this was interesting.
Guess Les needs to lay off the Mercury!

i wonder if Chumlee knew that... he wears hats
Les only wears hats cause the reflection of the sun off the glass windows in the east... hence the reason we play 230 games

The way it was explained to me sometime during my time at LSU is that hatters would lick their fingers while working the beaver fur hats that had been treated with lead. Or maybe it was mercury - I cannot remember the details. Anyway, obviously the hatter ingested some of the toxin and in doing so eventually went mad.

Guess that explains why Les claps facing north most of the time.
