When JJ rolls out of the pocket on pass plays he is generally more successful.
It buys him time to see things downfield (or take off if nothing is open), and masks the OL deficiencies.
That was the difference between the Ole Miss/UNC/Bama games and the really bad games.
You'll notice that he sits in the pocket on the games where he stinks.

I agree that he is more successful rolling out, but I think you overstate the "offensive line deficiencies by quite a bit. The O line was quite adequate this year. They weren't perfect but in the least, were average as a unit.
