C-

No head coaching experience.

No experience in the state of Florida.

I don't like this hire at all.

Impossible to say. Any coach without HC experience is a HUGE gamble.

I agree. C or C-. UF should not be a testing ground for guys with no HC experience.

I agree. I mean he may turn out great, but at first glance I don't see it happening.

Is Muschamp that much better of a defensive mind that Charlie Strong, who has both UF ties and at least one year under his belt as a head coach?

C+... I like Muschamp a lot, but Florida (or LSU, for that matter) is not the place to learn how to be head coach.

Amazing they pulled the trigger so quickly. Miami may indeed out-hire them (at least the initial grade - I think Florida is a whole tier above The U right now, but things are very fluid right now).

Big mistake hiring a guy with 0 head coaching experience. They could have done much better imo.

Muschamp isn't a bad coach, but he's not proven and obviously has no experience.

If you wanted a young-ish defensive minded guy, I can think of several with head coaching skins on the wall:

- Gary Patterson
- Gene Chizik
- Charlie Strong
- Kevin Sumlin
- Troy Calhoun

You're FLORIDA. You should be able to hire any of those guys.

A-/B+. He will be successful. Petrino would have been an A+.

A.

i love the hire. its a risky hire, but its a big swing-for-the-fences hire. they werent worried about coaching experience and all that, they went for the guy they thought would best run their team, hopefully for awhile.

its a balls play and i respect that.

I feel bad for him because he's succeeding a guy who won two NCs in six years. Lots of inherent expectations for a guy with no HC experience.

I'd give the hire a B though. Make him hire a good OC and I like his chances for success.

That's what I'm thinking.

If it's a risk, that means it might not work and that lowers the "Grade"
