Faulk's place in LSU record books is unequaled. And, if LSU had been in a national championship or SEC championship mode, had the program not suffered for so long in Hallman's years, Faulk well might have won or competed for a Heisman.

I remember he was a pre-season candidate heading into that disasterous 1998 season. If there is one season I would like to erase from my memory, its that one. 1999 was bad but atleast we knew Dinardo would be fired.

No, he finished 2nd behind Hershel Walker, but ahead of Bo Jackson. Darren McFadden pasted Faulk.

I'm pretty sure Faulk broke Walker's SEC career all-purpose yardage record, though. Of course faulk had one more season than Walker.

The Media guide has him at 6,883 yards for his career, with an asterix indicating SEC record.

ETA:

Just checked the SEC site, Faulk still leads in career all-purpose yards in the SEC:

1. Faulk, 6,833 (95-98)
2. McFadden, 5,881 (05-07)
3. Abney, 5,856 (00-03)
4. Walker, 5,749 (80-82)
5. Dominick Davis, 5,743 (99-02)
...
8. Hilliard, 5,326 (82-85)

LSU is the only team with three players in the top ten.

You remember correctly.

The team was ranked 6th in the pre-season and the wheels totally came off.

Faulk's 1998 stats were incredible: LINK

He averaged 191 yards a game in AP yards and still led the SEC in rushing! Even though the team was 2 - 6 in conference, and 4-7 overall. He was 3rd in the NCAA in yards on a losing team.

I still "blame" Lou Tepper for that debacle of a season and the next. The defense just couldn't get off the field. That is why I never complain about Chavis - I didn't even complain about MalVeto (even though they scared me) -- because I remember Tepper.

I know Cannon won the Heisman, but I have a hard time not believing Faulk is LSU's greatest offensive player ever. It's a short list, though. He was truly a special college player and an all-time great Tiger.

LSU Hall of Fame.
He'll be in the Patriots Hall of Fame, I think if he can recover and play one more season, maybe two.
As we have been saying, they should retire his number.

He is my favorite Tiger of all TIME! By far!! I am considerate of those before my time past the late 80's and 90's. Cannon's and what not. Faulk was the man!
