Why is he in the running for/winning so many awards?

I've seen a number of threads talking about how he had such a down year. Is this simply a case of rantards not knowing what the hell is going on, thinking he should be perfect at all times, and not realizing that offenses stayed away from him for the most part? Or, is he getting recognition for his talent, and not necessarily his production on the field?

I love PP, but feel like he was outplayed by TM this year.

Awards are bogus. The best player may not get the most attention. Those who get the most attention get awards.

pretty much recognition for his talent. He hasn't really had to many chances to make plays because people stay away from him. A lot of time these awards are just a popularity contest and not for stats on the field.

Yes. Look at the early games when people actually threw his way. Plus his special teams play speaks for itself...

How the shite could you even compare the two? They are used very differently (See Mathieu coming off the edge.) Mathieu had a great year, but in a different way than Peterson.

H-Y-P-E.

And him posing as the heisman in the endzone didn't hurt.

Fact of the matter is that in the second half of the season, he was outplayed by a true freshman. I am not sure if he was just protecting his draft status by not playing to get hurt but he sure didn't have the same mojo the second half.

He has great physical tools, and great ball skills. He just doesn't quite bring it like Matieu does.

Special teams, I think he unquestionably deserved it. He proved what he can do beyond the shadow of a doubt. I just think getting recognition from the coaches is a big testament to what he actually did for us. Other awards may be more of a popularity contest, but when it comes from the coaches, I think that probably means a bit more.

Is there actually a minority of LSU fans that believe this?

I hate the rant.

This. The reality is, even as a Top 5 NFL draft pick, Peterson is a little unpolished. He had a tendency to try to make a big play when he should just stay tight on his man in coverage.

Part of the psychological complex of the dude who KNOWS he's the best defender on the field, I guess. He's tried to pick up the slack from other players a few times, and he's left himself a bit exposed in the process.

you don't have the prerequisite number of posts to present your opinion, much less a horrible one like he was protecting his draft status

TM is a great talent but he probably won't be a top 10 pick. He just doesn't have the size and strength that PP7 has.

Holy fricking shite!

Do you realize that PP and TM were used way differently? Switch their positions and you'll see TM get burned often (see Arky). Peterson held Julio Jones to 80+ yards and one TD while the rest of the DBs overcame Taylor's injury. No other CB on the team can do that. Not many in the country can assume the responsibility Peterson did.
