Turkey Smoking Gurus -- Need input

Masterbuilt electric smoker. Brined turkey, 13 lbs., 240 degrees. In four hours, this sucker was overcooked!!!! This was my first attempt, but I expected it to take about 6 hours. Got that smoker because it is digital temp. controlled.
This same turkey in the oven at 325 would have taken about 3-1/2 hours.
Any suggestions/input/insults, etc.?

Does it have a water pan? Did you wet or dry smoke?

That is weird!! I have a cajun injector electric smoker and i smoke leg quarters for about 3-4 hrs at 225 depending on size and they are moist and juicy when pulled off.
I have never done a turkey but would have figured it would have taken longer than what you had it on for.
I will follow thread to see what anyone else says so that I can use for future reference.

Was your temp constant?

Never cook to time. It should be about 170 degrees at the breast or 175 at the thick part of the thigh. Wrap it up for 30 minutes or so and you should be set.

Temp constant, HS. That is why I bought the programmable electric one. But now I know that I need to check it more often and go by what the meat thermometer says.
Should have not tried a turkey on my first attempt. FWIW, the flavor was absolutely fabulous! Just overcooked.
I used a mixture of cherry, apple and pecan wood.

Brined turkeys usually cook faster.. check out smoking turkeys

first off, I would verify that the temp is actually 240...I agree that it should have taken longer than that if the temp was true...
I have a charcoal smoker so I don't have accurate temp, but I typically cook a 17-20 lb turkey for about 12 hours (reload the water pan and charcoal pan half way through).....
also, I typically smoke with a mix of pecan and plum (because that is what is in the yard)....turns out nice...

I Smoke at a much lower temp, 175-180, and never let it get above 200. 1/2 hour per lb. Works every time for me and I have owned the same Electric Smoker for 25 years.........
