Why do people keep saying we don't have talent at QB?

I realize our talent obviously has not been developed, but to claim LSU has a "talent" problem at the QB position is a ridiculous statement.
We have:
Jarrett Lee = Elite 11 QB, 4*, #7 Pro-style QB (Rivals), #15 QB overall (Scout). Yup, no talent.
Jordan Jefferson = 4*, #8 Pro-style QB (Rivals), #18 overall QB (Scout)
Russell Shepard = Elite 11 QB, 5*, #1 Dual-threat QB (Rivals), #2 QB (Scout)
Chris Garrett = 3*, #18 Pro-styel QB (Rivals), #27 QB (Scout)
Now, I understand rankings don't mean everything, but all services seemed to rank all these guys equally, yet none panned out.
Talent is about potential. SKILL is about development. We have had plenty of talent over the past 3 seasons. Our problem has been developing that talent with refined skills. None of which has happened.
I wish the media and fans would stop bitching about talent. Crowton is a large part of the problem as when Lee continues to throw off his back foot after 4 years, that means he's either not being coached to avoid that or is being poorly coached overall, maybe both.
I am just really sick of people belittling these players and their talent. They've all got plenty of it. Don't blame them for their QB coach, OC and WR coaches for sucking total arse.

I put up our recruits that made it to campus. He left obviously, but still was a wasted talent/miss by Crowton.

Jordan Jefferson - has the intelligence level of Aaron Brooks and half the skill.
Lee - can't read a defense, throws off back foot 75% of the time (unbelievable the coaches have not corrected this because every time he steps into a pass he throws a good ball)
C. Garret- really?
Shep- mind boggling I've never seen him thrown a pass

Good post, LSU Mafia. Certainly some food for thought.

Most underutilized talent in the history of LSU.

You know this because? The kid is actually considered quite intelligent in his school work and has shown flashes.

1) I seriously doubt the good to great QBs all knew how to read a defense coming into college. That, like footwork, takes training from their coaches.
2) Again, that has little to do with talent, and more to do with horrific position coaching and playcalling.

Again, if Les was just posturing with Shepard by claiming he'd get a shot at QB without it really meaning anything, than Garrett was the next real QB at LSU. Amazingly he left after his true freshman year in which he redshirted. No one knows why, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was cause of how pathetic the coaching he was getting from Crowton was.

I agree. It'd be one thing if he was believed to be just a top notch athlete coming out of highschool, but many schools, albeit not UT were looking at him at QB. He may not have a strong enough arm to be a pro-style QB, but as a dual-threat he'd be a great weapon. Instead, he's wasting away at WR being coached by a bad WR coach in Gonzales who was basically made by Percy Harvin's natural abilities.

admit it, you didnt know Garret even left the team

Lester, I knew. I was putting up the recruits since Perrilloux genius.
I am still curious as to why the kid left.

Nice post, except JJ's nickname is "Tools", because he supposedly has all the measurables. The game just never slows down for him, and he looks lost at times.
Lee? Agree with what you said.
Garret? Was just here to party.
Shep? What you meant to say was you'd never seen him complete a pass.

You must have missed the picture memphisplaya posted on the RB. Garrett ate his way out of LSU. Dude is about 260lbs

Talent means nothing when you can't make it translate into success. None of our QBs deserve to be am SEC Qb.

Jefferson was a project coming out of high school.
He was not supposed to make a significant impact in college until he was a junior.
He came out of a recruiting class (2008) where the overall talent level at the QB position was very low.
The only QBs in that class that are worth a shite are Pryor, Gabbert, Luck, and Thomas.

Prime example is QB Garrett Gilbert at UT Longhorns.
2008 Offensive Player of the Year USA Today
He is proof that those stats and rankings don't mean they are the 2nd coming of jesus out of high school.
Some qbs take more time to develop for both college and NFL.
It sucks we aren't developing somebody right now for not next year, but the following.

google his name on the recruiting board and look for his picture someone posted. He is prob 260lbs now.
Im not the biggest fan of the coaches, but Jordan Jefferson sucks, and i hate to say it, but i think Lee was ruined his RS FR year. Wish he would have gotten more of a shot this year. But he has talent, they just wont play him and instill confidence in him.

FWIW, I also think that the more important argument that needs to be made is that great talent at the QB position is not even necessary in order to have a prolific offense.
Just check out some of the supposedly great QBs at Oklahoma, Florida State, & Miami, that were just cogs in a larger machine. Just look at the list of QBs who have won NCs over the last 50 years.
This notion that CFB offenses are tied to the fate of hitting the jackpot in the QB recruiting lottery is just a pile of steaming feces. It's crazy to watch a fanbase just go deeper and deeper into absurd rationalizations the longer something truly unexcusable goes on.
The most obvious conclusion from the past 2 years is just to accept the obvious: Gary Crowton sucks and is the primary reason why LSU has suffered beyond what should have reasonably occurred given the cards the program was dealt by the '05 & '06 recruiting classes.
Also, Chavis is a great DC who made absolutely huge blunders coming up with game plans for Auburn & Ole Miss.
People need to stop overthinking shite.
Sometimes the obvious really is true.
