Are these the REAL Glory Days?

Last week I looked back at the W-L records from the Charlie Mac days (when I was in elementary school), and started thinking that Charlie Mac's record just can't compare with the LSU Tigers of the Saban - Miles era, with so many recent 9, 10 and 11 - win seasons.
Then it dawned on me that the Tigers of those old glory days NEVER played opponents like McNeese, ULM, ULL, NW State, Citadel, W. Ky, Middle Tenn State, Troy, App. State, N. Texas, Fresno State, Western Illinois, Utah State, Western Carolina, UAB, or La. Tech.
When you consider that the W-L records of the last decade are inflated by at least two creampuffs per season, the difference between now & then ain't that dramatic.

the level of talent in football and specifically the SEC has increased 10 fold since those days.
with the way the BCS is set up and bowls in general, it would be foolish to schedule all our SEC opponents and then top it off with the best of every other conference.
Also with the research that has been done on the long term effects of football on the health of a player it would be foolish to fill a schedule up with hard hitting teams every week. (we already have that in conference)
we have won 2 national titles this decade so yes, it is the golden days.

Good observation, although i will take the 2000 era over the 1970.We did play many not so good teams,Rice,Wyoming,etc. back then!

If you define "glory" as winning percentage or championships, then I guess this is the "Glory Days" for LSU. For me I find the "Glory Days" to be long gone from football and most other sports as well. Wish I could watch a game today where the tackler wrapped his arms around the ball carrier instead of throwing his body at him, because he was to scared to get hurt. They use to play knowing they were going to get hurt. Those were the glory days for me.

Yes we did we played teams like Pacific ,Rice, and Tulane just to name a few.
