Anybody shot one in southeast louisiana? and is it worth mounting?

Barrow's (purple head) or Common (green head)? Where did you kill the bird?

I'd mount it. I don't think they're very good table birds.

It's a common goldeneye. And I shot it in Lafitte Louisiana.

And if I mount him, which I probably will, it will definitely be a table mount. Was thinking about a dead mount because I want one bad but I'm thinking it's to rare of a duck to do that with so im gonna wait till I kill a pintail to do that.

I've never shot one down here in 35 years of hunting. Have been out when others have shot one. I'd certainly consider mounting it so long as it's condition is good and it's not a young bird this early in the year.

You have a picture of it? Those are pretty rare in Louisiana. A guy shot a female black scoter on my lease (SWLA) and we had it mounted. I didnt know what the hell it was.

Amazingly we had a feller kill a couple Golden eyes at our camp in Mississippi last year. But upon further review they were determined to be Scaup.. He received an F that day in duck identification.

Yea I have a picture but I'm new at this and can't figure out how upload it? And when I noticed it was a goldeneye i decided to pop it on the water because I wanted to make sure it didn't get away and it wasnt that close prob about 60 feet from me so I didn't mess it up. Also it was just as big as the greys I shot and pretty sure it was fully plumaged.

used to see lots of them hunting the chef and what is now bayou sauvage NWR.. way back when...

and killed some in lake ponch. during the special "dos gris" season way back when we still had that.

One canvasback and you were done for the day, depending on the order it was killed. I think that's how it worked. I was just a teen when this system was in place.

I never used that system but from what I hear you could shoot an assload of ducks "if shot in the right order"

yeah.. back early 80s pintails, grays, widgeon, teal, spoonies, dos gris and black jacks were 10 point ducks...

mallard drakes 25 hen 70 redhead 70 can 100.. woodie 70...

fondly remember some hunts in 81 and 82 with 10 sprigs...

83.. had a few 10 widgeon hunts...
