Will the Big East hold a spot for Notre Dame?

While the logical thing for Notre Dame to do would have been to join the Big 10, it doesn't appear they are willing to do that.
The Big East could possibly attract them by letting them keep their lucrative TV contract, a move Texas is pulling in the Big 12, and a move Louisville did years ago in the old Metro Conference.
With the addition of TCU as their 9th member, it appears they have given Villanova the first option on the 10th spot, if they will move up to FBS. Next in line would be Central Florida.
Besides Notre Dame, the next possible candidates are Houston and Temple.
Why isn't Memphis an option? It seems they would be the perfect fit. Excellent in basketball, with a football program that could be as good as many of the other Big East teams with a BCS conference to brag about. It would also be a bridge to Texas.
They also need to boot the basketball only schools.

I can't imagine this conference holding together "as-is" for much longer. 17 is way too many for any conference in any sport.
As far as ND, as long as the Big East is satisfied with having everything but football in the conference, there's no reason for ND to join in football. That being said, I can't imagine the Irish in the Big East in football. If they were given an ultimatum by the Big East, I can then see them turning to the Big 10 (possibly) to become an all sport member.

And I look for Villanova to take it. They've been itching to move up a division in football.
I think the Big East would take Notre Dame in without questions asked but Notre Dame wants no part of a conference where they would have to share the TV contract and bowl money. They just won't.
If the Big East Commissioner had any cojones what so ever he would've told Notre Dame to join or GTFO a long time ago.

Notre Dame will not join a conference in football until NBC does not give them an exclusive tv contract. They make too much money that they don't have to share with anyone to join a conference. And, they have a sweet deal with the BCS.

I do my part every week by not tuning in to whatever channel they are on, whether it's NBC or not.

Notre Dame will never, under any circunstances, join the Big East in football. Never.
Big Ten schools pay out 22 million per team per year right now. With the addition of Nebraska and conference title game that will probably jump to 30 million. The Big East pays out 3 million.
If the Big Ten would add Notre Dame and one more big time money maker they could easily be making 40-50 million per team.
Plus, the Big East is about as dysfunctional as can be. So is the Big 12. The Big Ten, ACC and SEC are stable conferences that make tons of money. I suspect if ND ever joined a conference it would be one of those 3. And any of the 3 would welcome them.
Memphis would be a disaster. They have terrible facilities. They are no longer competitive. They have made zero attempt to improve the football program. And the Vols pretty much own that market.
I went to Villanova. They are losing about 4-5 million a year right now in football. I'm thinking what the hell, we aint gonna lose anymore by jumping. I say go for it.It may be our only chance.
If Nova says no then I suspect UCF will be invited. Possibly Appy State.
