Anyone belong to one of these? Friend of mine recently has been trying new beers and for Christmas thought about getting them a membership. Everything looks really expensive ($30+ per month for 12 beers). Any suggestions?

A friend of mine's dad was in one, had a lot of good beer he let us taste. But it was a lot of European beer. A lot of Belgian beer I'd never heard of, but really tasty.

Less than $3 per beer (really good beers, mind you...) is too expensive for you?

Ummm... OK.

anyway, I'm not in one of those clubs, but I have sampled more beers than most people out there without having to do that.

Pat on the back for you.

Bump this. It sounds like a decent gift. Anybody?

Got it as a gift one year, and it was fun to sample, although some of the beer wasn't that great.

There's a wine of the month club too.

I think that's what I'll do. Every other month for the year at about $40/month with shipping. $240/year isn't too bad I guess to have 12 craft brews shipped to your door 6 times a year.

Do you remember what company you used? A couple companies I ran across both had Abita listed as a "microbrew". Abita might be a microbrew, but you can get their beer in virtually every state now. It's pretty widely distributed, so it had me wondering how knowledgable the person who picks the beer is or how hard they try to procure rare micro or craft brews.

I don't, partially because it was a gift and also because it was probably 15 years ago. It was fun to receive, but I'm sure it was pricey as hell with the shipping cost. At the time I was living in a big city which had all of the beers available anyway, so it really wasn't anything too special. I love darker and richer beers and I remember there being a lot of lighter beers.

Not trying to be an arse, but look up the definition of a microbrew

Sure ya are...

I believe I stated that I understand Abita is a microbrew.

My point was considering you can get Abita in every state in America it is definitely on the the larger end of a microbrewery and not a "hard to find" microbrew which I would hope for in a specialty mail order program. I just found it surprising that they listed Abita as one of the exciting microbrews you might get.

Anyways, I ordered from the craftbeerclub.com.

I'll post a review and update what came in.

Thread hijack...I can do that.

If you make it back to this thread. Planning a trip to Boston for the Yankees game in April. Ever been? Right now only tickets listed are broker's tickets on EBAY and Stubcrap. Just wondering if legit tickets can be found outside of the stadium on gameday. It's a 3 game series, so I figure if I miss game 1 I can just go grab a couple electronic tickets on EBAY or Stubhub and make game 2.

Kids our likely in my near future, and I'm trying to knock out my "before kids" bucket list.

I still haven't ruled that out.

It's one of those "we" decisions.

I figure I only have a few more years to really make that choice. I'm not trying to have kids after 35.

Picasso sired a kid when he was 70ish. Although you might not be able to have that stern talk with the guy who picks up your daughter for prom......just saying.
