Cannon used to run the 100 meters in close to 10 seconds flat...

I would guess players were slower back then, but also, they played Iron man football Cannon played offense and defense, and may have been tired but definitley had speed to burn...

By all accounts Cannon was a track star at lsu as well, if your a true tiger fan you should already know this...

Did anyone have speed back then...

trust me those guys would've caught you buddy

10.39 is not setting the world on fire, but it isn't much slower than many skill players in the SEC today.

actually 10.39 is fast as hell, and the average sec skill player does not run close to that fast... Mo Claiborne is our starting corner ran 10.7 in h.s, and Reggie Bush ran a 10.4...
Devery Henderson's best times were 10.3's and Eddie Kennison ran a 10.2 at best...

There's a reason people talk about how fast Cannon was, 10.39 is faassstttt!

Two, Cannon's fastest 100 yard dash was a hand-timed 9.4. That converts to about a 10.37, electronically times 100m. While that's not setting the world on fire, it would be comparable to what most of our skill athletes would run. Also, Cannon carried some size and lots of strength with that speed - over 6' and he played at LSU at about 205 to 208 pounds

WRONG! 10.39 for 100m is FAST. PP is probably the only player on the roster over 200 lbs. capable of doing it. 4.4 in the 40 doesn't convert to 10.4 100m.

He didn't run a 10.39 by today's standards..more like a 10.6 due to the error associated with it being hand-timed.

Cannon was the fastest shot-putter and the strongest sprinter in SEC history - maybe even the whole damn world.
