I was told at our tailgate on Saturday that beginning next year, LSU will charge anyone parking on campus between Highland and Nicholson $40 per car. Has anyone heard anything about this?

My friend that runs our tailgate was told this by someone visiting us that works for the athletic department, and said that they are going to announce the new plan soon.

If this is true, it's going to make it hard for groups like mine that have a lot of poeple tailgating and a lot of gear to load in and out.

ETA: I'm not talking about tagged lots. I'm talking about lots like Thomas Boyd, Parade Grounds, etc.

I will pay it but I am willing to bet that it will cost 5 to 7000 more empty seats for all the game but a hand full. Watch the homes around campus become pay lots like it used to be in New Orleans. When I have to pay, I wll reduce my annual check to LSU by the amount that I have to pay to park and I will tell them that.

That doesn't surprise me. I think it's very possible that one day you will have to pay just to walk on campus on game day. Show me the $$$$$.

Well, that's going to be awfully hard to figure out how many passes to sell. I see LSU fricking this up big time if true.

Can you imagine paying $40/ game or $280 for 7 games and getting there 2 hours before kick off only to realize that you and 1000 other cars are looking for the last 50 spaces? The parking will have to be assigned. Will students that live on campus have to remove their cars from campus on game days? Oh wait!!!

Exactly. I don't think this sees the light of day. It would be a logistical cluster frick. You can't make the side of the road an assigned parking spot. That would be insane.

it could be handled in the lots with few entry points. there are lots of area that are not in a LOT that would be impossible to pull off(side of road, etc.) i could see the rent a cops trying to collect monies for this.

if they can figure out how to charge a fee

for example, i could see a fee to setup before.....i dont know.......5 AM on gamedays

if you don't have a setu up early tag with your stuff, then it gets towed. it's easy enough to have crewed do a walk through between 5 PM and 5 AM

It would be absolutely insane to try to pull this off. There's a shite-load of cars that park on the inner part of campus. LSU will frick this up in catastrophic fashion.

i dont think it's as hard as you think

if you dont have a student tag or a park early tag, then you receive some sort of penalty

crews can easily scan the whole campus in a few hours

Yeah, I guess they could do that but I'm thinking the only way would be to put toll collectors in all the shacks. Still seems like a logistical nightmare.
