Zach, you should look at Frys.com on Friday. I got $400 off a laptop yesterday with a i-5 processer and it is back to retail price today. You may find a TV online massively discounted that makes it worth the delivery charge and pay someone to come install it for you if you need the service.

I crammed a 47" LCD into a 48.5" space in an entertainment center a few years ago, but you don't want to cut it that close as I was measuring to 2/10 on an inch. I think the 120hz LED's are the best value for current standards and will give you years of quality HD viewing and they are much lighter than standard LCD sets. I have my eyes on a 42" LED to swap in and out of bedroom and the covered deck if the price hits a certain range, they only weigh 40-44 lbs.

PS - You should measure the space precisely and match to the dimension of the new set, you want the largest screen possible due to 16:9 aspect. A 42" would have made a lot of difference compared to the 47" given our viewing area. Read an article on best viewing distance from various size TV's to get an idea. My recollection of 42" was 8'-10' distance from the tv for best viewing experience.

Thanks. The problem with the measuring is that it can't be precise on human access to the wiring behind the set.

The hole I've got is easy to measure precisely. But a 46 inch set, with a total diagonal of 50 inches would be impossible to set up without the swivel I've got to set it on and I'm not sure how forgiving the swivel would be with a bigger set.

It might work since a flat screen will swivel without the back end thickness banging against the side wall.

I've even thought that I could try a 46 inch and if the installer has a problem I can remove the side doors. I never use those doors and they take up 2 inches.
