being ranked 1 and 2 by the BCS at season's end. Even from my vantage point it seems clear that the odds favor both of these two marquis BCS teams ending the regular season sans blemish. That would require losses for both Oregon and Auburn, but what is life without hope?
A 1-2 finish by those institutions would be a long needed stiff dose of bitter reality for the entire CFB fandom (outsied of TCU and BSU homers)regarding the manipulation known as the BCS. It is very little more than a popularity contest run by media prima donas who probably are not much more informed about CFB that the average ranter...

Well, would rather have that happen in the last season of the BCS current contract because if it happens this year and the following three years are "normal" then this will be forgotten. And besides some people might actually like the system more since it let the "small" schools play for the crystal ball.

Fairness. Of coures, fairness. What to do, then, with the competitive society? Excellence is tempered only through continual competition. The rest is the sickly sweet aroma that the appeal to the corrosive effects of political correctness inevitably produces.

Strength of Schedule and Quality Win components need to be put back into the formula as in 2003.

Strength of schedule is a component in the computers, and the quality win component goes along with SOS technically.

True enough, but that does not account for TCU and BSU...

I actually really like the BCS and think most in favor of a playoff have no idea what they want because they are not considering why they love college football in the first place.
What a concept! The regular season actually matters. Kudos to college football to be the first major sport to figure it out.

I like our chances of beating TCU and Boise State. We have a damn strong football team. See ya!

Any team can win one game on a given day. Running through a gauntlet of top 10 teams in a playoff would be much tougher and great for college football fans everywhere. Why do you think March madness is so popular?

A TCU Boise BCS CG game would shake up the BCS.
In case you missed it, its all about money, and id bet that this game would have the lowest ratings since the inception of the BCS.
Money drives change, and when they lose enough, it will change.

As has been pointed out SOS is part of the computer models, but I would like it back in too. It was never a big factor as it would only be sort of a tie breaker between very closely ranked teams. But by being explicit, it gave fans a reason to care about games all over the country and that is a good thing for the sport.
The quality wins component, while well intentioned, was an abomination that never should have been part of the BCS. There is just no good, fair way to implement it.

This argument is actually better for the current system than a playoff. You're right ... any team can win one game on a given day. That's why one-game playoffs are not true measures of the "best team" IMO. Could Boise State beat Auburn or Alabama in the BCSCG? Certainly. Does that mean Boise State is better than Alabama or Auburn? Hell no.
Hell look at the NFL playoffs ... the Giant won the SuperBowl a couple years back. The Giants were not even the best team in their own division, so how in the hell can someone sit back and tell me that they are the best team in the NFL?

the same reason MLB, Hockey, and NBA suck. Too damn many games, and they play almost year around. (some exaggeration)

2003 was the perfect bcs formula mimus one small detail. It put less emphasis on when you lost and put more emphasis on who you beat and who you lost to. The only thing I change is only conference champs can play for national. If you don't win your conference, you don't win national championship. That one stipulation would have had the game everyone wanted.

Actually the system is fine, even in the playoffs the best team doesn't always win. the closest we will get to the playoffs is the so called "+1." If you start playoffs with 8 teams, then there will still be a problem choosing the #6, 7 and 8 teams; so this will only magnify the problem of teams being left out.

Let's note that the SEC, Big-12, and ACC voted for a 4 team playoff.
Big Ten and Pac 10 held the Rose bowl to their lips and smelled the money. They vetoed the playoff.
