Miles will win back the fan base if the wheels don't come off

If Miles can manage the current situation and not let this team meltdown then I think he'll win back most of the fanbase. This involves beating Bama and the rest of the schedule. Anything short of this and the grumbling will continue into next year.
This is the perfect opportunity for Miles.

99% of the fan base that is realistic, picked this team to finish 9-3 or 10-2 at best.....They won't be far from that

We can easily got 10-2. I say if we beat bama we go 11-1.

nothing wrong with going 10-2 because 9-3 is about what most expected. i also think most fans will be happy if he beats you know who.

the team is on the verge of a meltdown? ok.

beating Bama
that would go a long way in changing the narrative.

While this is true (it was my prediction before the season) this doesn't make it acceptable. I predicted we'd go 5-6 in 1999 under DiNardo, but that doesn't mean I would have been happy about it. Most people predicted 9-3 because they saw the team play last year under this same coaching staff. That doesn't mean that the fan base should tolerate that record. Less than an SEC West title should be considered a failure at LSU.

I actually agree. I don't have much faith, but I think he could win back the fans with a solid stretch run. I think the majority of fans are like I am, and want Miles to succeed but just don't have much faith.

No way. Too many fans, myself included, have witnessed too much confusion and luck to ever believe that Les Miles is adding value to the program. At this stage, Les Miles is an albatross. If Bob Stoops and Les Miles had identical records, but only one could go to the 'ship, the media would pick Stoops or any other coach over Les (and Stoops has made plenty of stupid decisions in the last 3 years). Les Miles is a laughingstock and a national whipping boy for the college football sports media.

I think so. Probably 25% that will never accept Miles regardless of what happens, 25% who will love him no matter what happens and the rest are hoping for a change but don't put much faith that it can happen. If Miles shows a propensity to change and make something happen, he can maintain a majority of fans who are behind him again. Its certainly not that way now.

So, to date, Nick Saban failed exactly as much as Les Miles.

Nope, it wouldn't change a thing. See Shaka Khan's post above. So much pure hate for such a good record. I believe Miles already has something worked out.

Winning makes everything right.
When you win, everyone just has to shut the frick up and watch.

He needs to fricking show he knows something. Pick a qb and play him the whole game. Thisw undecided bullshite is dividing teh locker room and the fan base and don't you dare think it doesn't matter when every student on campus is putting shite in these players ears all week!

Not really
He was probably under more heat from the fan base after the Tenn game than the AU game
Piss poor game management rightfully pisses off the fan base
Ole Miss in 09, Tenn and UF this year, AU this year
How many instances of shitty game and clock management do you need to see before you lose confidence in the guy to consistently win close games without a rabbit's foot?

Once again, if we finish 11-1 in the regular, 98% of the fanbase won't give two shits about "how" it happened, because it happened.
And as much as everyone has bitched about how impossible it is for LSU to finish strong this season, the majority of people like you would be won over by the fact that we somehow were able to do it. It's impossible to deny winning when it is happening.
Of course, people like you would still find a way to bemoan every possible positive thing that happens, but those type of fans will always exist.
ETA: A large majority of how you feel about Miles is based on the assumption that we CANNOT keep winning BECAUSE the process is bad.
If we keep winning, you don't really have that argument to fall back on.

eh..I see you hiring a very mid-level coach likely winning 7-8 games. Never saw an LSU fanbase before 2005 "rightfully" pisssed about a win. Somehow the "Bluegrass Miracle" is forgotten.

True the TV guys, Gary Danielson in particular plays the LSU fanbase like a concert pianist:
"Uh oh..is it Les Miles Time??"

We could easily be 4-4. Last second wins over UNC and Tenn and a fake field goal to beat Florida. We will not be Bama or Ark. We have no offense!
Posted on 10/26/10 at 1:54 am to siliconvalleytiger
If we win out and Auburn loses 2 we can still win the BCS!! Look at 2007....it could happen!!!

Wrong - I just want him gone.
Such sustained incompetence must be genetic. Can't be fixed. Either that or he toked up so much during college he is having freebies during the games.

Gary Danielson just happens to be the best analyst in college FB. Why they pair him up with that idiot Vern Lundquist who gets every other comment wrong or states the obvious is beyond me. Maybe they figure Gary needs comic relief, so they stick him with Bozo Lundquist.
Back to the topic at-hand: Danielson, like most rational people, sees Les for what he is, someone who "took a premier team and made it into a pretty good team with a bunch of athletes."
