the problem was Dr A didnt want a guy associated with probation and Blakeney was Dye's fall guy at Auburn so he was tainted

Fields and the Black Caucus told Dr A if he didnt hire a black head coach he would have problems in the budget and funding arena and Dr A caved in and hired Baldwin

HH,

If it were up to me I'd have called Bustle into the AD's office this morning and given him two options; resign or your fired.

Farmer needs to start assembling a list of potential canidates today.

Just talked to a friend of mine who is very close to the situation.

re: to factsman saying RCAF talking about having 500k to pay the next coach. RCAF is internally run by the athletic department and no one is throwing out figures b/c Bustle is still under contract.

re: to saying Cook has been contacted. No one has been contacted and no one will be contacted while Bustle is under contract. Rickey Bustle has extension clauses for 7 wins and bowl games. So until we get to 7 losses this season, Bustle is the coach.

No figures or no one is being contacted because we don't want any lawsuits.

2 comments about the future hire --

1. We won't hire anyone without experience in college.

2. We won't hire anyone with a smudge on their resume.

This guy has always been dead on so I'll go with that.

That's good info there. Bottom line is this...we need a guy who can push us over the hump and take us to a new level. And the win number game is a death match. No winning with that. I want a guy who can consistently have us winning and competing within our conference.

We play 3 pay games a year and 8 (soon to be 9 conference games). The goal of this league has always been to whittle it down to where we don't have to play as many pay games.

So, if a new coach does come (which I think is pretty obvious), we can hope the conference can eventually get to the level where we're only playing 2 pay games a year and have flexibility for more home-and-homes with other mid-majors. More wins = more bowls = more money.

That's what I hope this program can get to, and the only way we can even imagine competing with conference consistently is with the right hire.

No one expects us to win 8-9 games a year with these money games. I want to get to the point where we can win our conference on any given year and take it from there.

Absolutely. If we win at Ohio or at Ole Miss I'd be surprised.

That's exactly how I feel as well.

Just work on the locking down the Belt, start whipping area schools not named LSU for some high school and JUCO recruits, and take it from there.

There is potential here...

Their is definitely potential here. I see no reason why we aren't battling it out for the Sunbelt Championship every season. I agree we have to stop playing 3 money games a season.

From what I've heard Hudspeth is legit head coaching material, he could be 1st in line to replace Mullen if he were to leave in the near future.

I don't think it's going to matter who they get. That ship has sailed. Had an opportunity to be a Southern Miss type program when Stokley was there. Thank you Dr. Ray Authement!

So you think Hudspeth is holding out for when Mullen bolts or would he come to UL?

He's from MS so it is a possibility. I'd say Mullen will be there for a few more years so Hudspeth would jump at the offer.

You think UF will hire him if Creyer retires for more than two days?

I do think Hudspeth would do a very good job. I'm just hopeful we don't wait too long.
