What academic programs are they known for?

Engineering is a big draw. Having so many plants in Sulphur is useful for internships throughout the year and whatnot. They tend to hire heavily from McNeese (assuming their hiring freeze has been lifted). Education is another quality program. Texas schools often hire from McNeese, and it is a decent school system for students to get observation and student teaching hours. The creative writing program has a couple professors who have won numerous awards so I hear that program is pretty solid. Tons of kids come for nursing too.

If you could go to McNeese or LSU out of high school, what would prompt someone to choose the former over the latter.

I got into both, but McNeese paid for everything (tuition, food, housing, books), so I decided to save my money for grad school.

To add to XQ11's post.

The pre-dental and pre-medical curriculums are very good. They always have a high rate of acceptance to dental and medical schools even way back to when I was there a million years ago.

Nursing school is good. My youngest son just graduated in nursing almost two years ago and is working in ICU in a local hospital.
