He was the #2 rated porspect in Louisiana last year, but he hasn't seen the playing field very much so far.

Is he as good as advertised?

Will he perhaps be switched to OL? A lot of high school DL's have gone on to have great careers as OL's.

Thoughts?

gonna go with no. I'd just like the kid to be a contributor on the 2 deep. we could use a big body even if it's just taking up some space on running downs.

Apparently he has a very poor work ethic, I haven't heard very good things about him from people at practice

Very disappointing. He was one of those guys who was touted as being a 4 year starter for LSU. Maybe he'll still get it together. He's just a RSFR this year, which means he'll be a soph next year. I could also see him switching to OL, a la Carnell Stewart.

You really thought he would be a 4 year starter? You had to know he had a lot of bad weight to lose.. come on man. He still has 3 years after this. Could be a really good run stuffer to compliment a Ego or JC Copeland.

Potentially, yes. Super Prep All Amercan, USA Today All-USA Football second team, a consensus five-star prospect by all major recruiting services ... Named to the Rivals 100 ... Rated as the No. 5 defensive tackle and the No. 25 overall prospect in the country by Rivals.com ... Rated as the No. 7 defensive tackle and the No. 43 overall prospect in the country by Scout.com ... Rated as the No. 11 defensive lineman in the country by SuperPrep ... Rated as the No. 22 overall prospect in the Sports Illustrated Top 200, Rated as the No. 1 most athletic defensive tackle in the country by Rivals.com ... Rated as the No. 8 overall prospect and No. 2 defensive tackle in the Mobile Press-Register Super Southeast 120, so yes, he was touted as having that kind of potential.

coming off season ending surgery out of HS, and reinjured last fall in camp.

It's his technique(he had one move coming in) more and conditioning more than anything

Good point about the injury. I think he only played in five games his senior season.

I'd love to see him step up next year and help ease the loss of Drake Nevis.

I think he'll be fine. I don't get to see him at practice but I see him every day and he seems to be a pretty happy-go-lucky kinda guy. Very few have the ability to step in immediately and make an impact at this level with so many good players at the same position on the roster. He'll be a solid player in the rotation and have a shot at the NFL come a couple years.

I saw Chris right after his surgery and 1 week after his surgery he did not have a limp. The Surgery in HS was just cartlidge removal which is minor surgery.

Chris's problem is not talent. Its work ethic. When he was being recriuted I remember a Coach in HS talking about him being Lazy on this site. The kid went to all the Camps and dominated and until he learns to practice hard everyday he is going to stay on the bench.

He is just young and he will get it. One of his good Friends on the team is RS and I would think being the leader that RS is CD will get it. But I did tell him that if he did not lose wieght Miles was going to move him to offense and he said that isnt happening. Well we will see about that now. I think Chris could be a great OL prospect.

Attrition candidate for next year. Really don't think the staff is happy with his effort at all. He may be one of those late bloomers but he might not get another chance after this year.

LSU probably will keep him next year based on his potential. But I think it is based on who we get in this class. If we get another big Dline class and Chris stays lazy, he may be on his way out. Attrition has to come from somewhere on the line when you keep loading up.

Any chance the staff gives him one more year to show he cares, then pulls his scholly a la Chris Garrett?

This should help you:

Morris Watts for OC in 2011! BRINGIN' BACK DA MAGIC!

Watts is the OC for Miami of Ohio, there are 5 former LSU coaches on that staff. That was the first team that Fla. played this year.

I hear that a lot, don't know why.

Lots of former LSU coaches on that staff.

Seems like we should go for Chucky Hunter, with Davenport's potential attrition.

He's a redshirt freshman. I don't think he gets switched to OL and I haven't heard about his work ethic or practice. IMO, at best he will likely be an Al Woods types who plays a year or two and will be highly critisized.
