Unless you are using them professionally go with the NICAD and make sure you drain the battery before recharging it as they can get "memory" and thus a shorter charge life.
Ryobi is fairly good but if you are going to use them alot go with Dewalt. Craftsman is ok but the frequently change their battery connections and getting replacement parts is difficult. If you buy them form a one of the big box stores the store will carry a 1 yr warrranty on them along with the original manf. warranty so dont opt for the additional protection plans.
Get one with a hammer drill in it if you plan on drilling into brick/concrete frequently.

I've had the Milwuakee set for about four years now and still love it. But if I were going to buy a new set, it would easily be the Makita combo. For construction sites, you cant beat a Makita. Tylertools.com has some really good prices, normally much better than Home Depot or Lowes.
But if your just needing the tools to work around the house, Ryobi would be just fine. Porter Cable is new to the battery sets, so I wouldnt by them based solely on that. And Ryobi offers way more tools to use with the batteries.

Ryobi is garbage. If they're used regularly they will last a little over a year. Maybe a little longer but not much. Either get the the PC or Dewalt.
