In defense of JJ, well somewhat

I'm one of many people that think that Lee should start
That being said this obviously isn't all on JJ
1. The pre-snap penalties were just inexcusable for starters.
2. JJ did make a really good play getting out of pressure and hit a WR down the middle of the field for a good gain only to be negated by a holding penalty. I think that play was one that would have given him some confidence and maybe sparked the passing game.
3. I don't think that Tolliver and Shep have been playing great at WR. Sure the passes aren't perfect but they have to do a better job holding onto the ball.
4. The play calling isn't great to say the least. The option plays to me are for the most part disruptive to the rhythm of the offense. Last game we did get some positive gains but I'm not sure it's the best idea to be running your QB and letting him take all those shots in the running game when we could probably get the same result or better by just handing it off to Ridley. If they want to run the option I think they need to be more selective with it and not run it as often. Maybe throw the defense off on a 3rd and 3 or something?
All that being said I think that JJ is possibly damaged mentally from his continual poor performances as of late. I think that rotating Lee might help him get a better look at things from the sideline. Since it's obvious that Lee isn't starting I think that giving Lee a series each quarter might be a good idea. If he gets a hot hand you keep him in obviously.
I think the game planning needs to be improved to help mask the inadequacies of JJ and get him into a rhythm. Some quick seam routes to the TE to help soften up the middle of the defense would help IMO.
I think that there are ways to improve this offense with JJ even though I don't think that he will unleash the full potential of this offense.

Yeah, but this is what we've been doing for the last year + 4 games. There's always some reason we can't get on track. hmmmm.

Good points. As I have said. We dont need to set the world on fire with offense. We just need to take advantage of good field position by getting it into the endzone, rather than kicking field goals. Taking away the penalties from last game may have done this for us and put the game out of reach. We are close to being good enough to have a good chance against the big four with some small improvements on O.
Lee obviously needs a shot, but even with JJ I think this is still possible.

My point is that it's a function of coaching as well. It's not all JJ

I agree with this
I have no idea why Randle isn't our #1 target on nearly every play. Seems like he's always open and never drops the ball.

I tried to point out the collateral issues with penalties and drops as well, but was tarred n' feathered.

That's what happens when you try to force the ball to RS
As far as I'm concerned RS needs to be relegated to sparse duty at WR. He isn't ready.

he still takes way too long to go through his reads, thats never going to change.
yet we cant let Lee play for a full quarter to see if the offense would be better off...

Good post. Sadly it's JJ that's getting the brunt of the criticism. But, there are plenty of shitpiles to go around.
Outside of RR and Joseph our receivers have been absolutely terrible. Yes, the JJ stakeburners will say that the passes aren't perfect. They may not be. But, TT is the #1 receiver and a SR he needs to make the tough catches. Shepard has blown some huge plays because of his poor pass catching. Wright dropped a huge pass along the sideline that would have gone for a much needed 1st down.
And the other night, if we don't get stupid penalties the offense looks much different.
I'm in no way taking up for JJ's poor performance. He let some of these things get to his head and acted like a 1st grader who got his lunch money stolen. But, it's not all on him.

seeing them laid out like that you cant help but laugh. it really has gotten to the point that it is so fricking bad and pathetic that it's actually funny how bad it is

How would you feel as one of our receivers who gets open play after play, but your QB won't take his eyes off the first receiver he looks at after the snap.
And locking on to receivers only lets the defense close on our receivers to break up the pass.
Lee may not be any better, but why doesn't Miles give the kid a chance?

TT has never lived up to his 5 star hype, and Shep was never a 5 star WR, he was a high school quarterback.
One thing that really pisses me off is when they moved RS to WR, I assumed that he would be used identically to Percy Harvin while at UF (because of the Gonzales hire). It dumbfounds me that RS has one play in that role that they use over and over and the defenses of late have caught on to. Why don't they either come up with more plays for RS in that role, or at least run a fake from that one play.
