The thing for me to get Lee some playing time is to have lee ready if jefferson goes down after being run over by bama or florida running that stupid option play. That leaves a backup that has had no playing time all year long

Right. The last thing Lee needs is to be thrust into a game against a team the caliber of Alabama with no meaningful playing time this year. And that's a good possibility. Funny how I remember the exact same thing happening last year.

Which is exactly what happened to us last year v. Bama. It doesn't matter who starts. Whoever the backup is needs quality reps so he can be ready. You don't get better by wearing a ball cap and carrying a clipboard.

Also, history has shown that we need a quality backup. LSU has only had a couple of seasons in the last 10 where the starter made it all the way through the season without getting hurt and losing playing time.
