i think the mindset of the coaching staff is at the center of the "problem"
priorities:
#1. run the ball
#2. play D
#10. throw the ball

Much of Les' issues as a coach can be boiled down to the common phrase "Good is the enemy of Great". He really believes that the QB is "close", and if they keep working on in, he'll get it. The problem is, sometimes you have to realize that what you're doing may never work, you may have peaked. But when you're "close", that's a difficult decision to make.
That's a really good-- arguably great :snickerstoself:-- point. It is debatable (as evidenced on TD) how well the offense and JJ are doing, and whether they are progressing or regressing. Miles clearly wants to believe the offense and JJ are progressing. He may be proven right over time, but if he's not, then how bad will it have to be for him to make changes, either on a coaching/playcalling or QB level? It's shaping up to be an interesting, soap opera like season.

It is obvious the more I watch the team, that Gary Crowton is the problem, he has to go. I don't think you gain anything by fireing him at this point, but this should be his last year.
couldn't agree more. it's a shame Crowton didn't get the chance to direct and offense with RP. IMHO, I think it would have been spectacular...but the reality of the situation is that he has failed to even maintain an average offense and Miles (if he wants to keep his job) needs to address this issue asap.

quote:Good analogy. I'd like to see JL get that chance.
Here is my analysis of the Qb situation. It kind of relates to life. When learning to ride a bike if the training wheels are never taken off the person wont ever learn. Lee had training wheels for about half a game. He has the scars to learn from. JJ has had the training wheels his whole career. Some people never learn how to ride a bike. I believe that JJ couldn't ride a bike if the training wheels were taken off. JL is healed up and has his confidence back. Its time to ride again.

I think there is enough variety in the offense to score some points
We moved the chain, scored on our 1st 7 drives, punted once, allowed 7 pts, and won by 3 TDs when we were the favorite by bout 7.
Do we need to play better as we move on? Sure, but some nice things going on with this team. imo

Is it just me or did we seem to "step on the gas" after State scored? The second half offense did not really resemble the first IMO.

I have been to practice and have seen Jordan Jefferson throw the football 50 yards with a flip of the wrist right on target.

Personally I think you are all drinking the same kool-aid. My take is that GC has never gotten the opportunity to run the offense, as CLM has always had his fingers in that piece of the pie. GC is just the bag-man at this point and I'm not sold that any other OC is going to make a difference.
As long as we keep winning, ugly or not, I'm happy. I spent too many years languishing through the Archer/Hallman/Dinardo years, watching us give away the close ones, to be nay-saying the statistically winningest coach in LSU's history.

I agree with this more and more every game I watch and here's why. I seem to remember last year against Bama, the playcalling was the same it ahd been all year in the first half, except for the last drive of the half. We ran the 5 receiver set with 4 on one side and 1 on the other, (the ooptie oop from varsity blues) and we moved the ball well. The Bama DB's seemed to not know what was going on.
Now I don't think we should run sets like this all the time, certainly its risky. I honestly think our coaches know our strengths and think those are good enough to beat most teams. While this may be true, if we never take any chances, how does this help our players confidence when we have to come from behind and take chances to make something happen?
The aggresive nature that I have seen from our coaching staff reminds me of a guy avoiding a girl in a bar because he sees her boyfriend and thinks me may get his arse whooped, and frankly I'm tired of it. So what if we turn the ball over once or twice? JJ or whoever does it on offense will learn, Hey that doesn't work in that situation. Also, we have an UNBELIEVABLE D this year taht will have our O's back if they turn the ball over or have to punt every now and then. Seriously, if I were PP I would take the entire defense into Miles' office, call Crowton in and say "Let them play. We got their back."
