If the officials on the field say the whistle blew before the ball came out, then it's a moot point. The ruling on the field though, was not that the whistle had blown, but that the ground had caused the fumble. The whistle came after.

Apparently, none of the officials were in position to see it come out because he was somewhat in a crowd at that point. I have no problem at all with what happened. It was a fumble.
