How did the term "Germans" emerge as a TD description for...?

I've had a handful of occurrences where I have inadvertently posted something that was previously mentioned on the Rant by someone else. Each time this happens there follows a veritable cacophony of exclamations of the term "Germans" or "German," and though I am not a brain surgeon it was ultimately fairly easy to deduce the meaning of the term as it pertains to the fact that a previous posting has already covered the topic on the Rant.
But, how on earth did that term emerge to mean what it does here? Does anyone know the origin of it?

because the Nazis had a saying, "The bigger the lie the more you need to repeat it to make the masses believe."

I'm going less than friendly here: search on "What does 'Germans' mean?" You'll literally get numerous explainations and prevent the need for yet another.

You'll find that it's something that's not very clever, but it got traction as being something terribly clever - despite the fact that it makes absolutely no sense, even after being told what it's supposed to mean - by a group of folks who are / were - ultimately - not very clever.
It's dumber than Alabama rocks.

The explanation I was given was that it dated back to Belushi's line in Animal House about the Germans bombing Pearl Harbor.

Like everything you post on here - that is wrong.

Damn...
You know better than that. I was born 14 years after Pearl Harbor.
But I have flown aircraft from that era. The T-6G pictured below was a trainer for WWII pilots. That's yours truly flying it...

Unpossible. I don't see streams of gin and urine.

How the hell are you!
Hush....
There's photographic evidence right in front of you! And here's another T-6 that I have flown....

I am good - busy with work, same as always. We're thinking about moving tailgate spots. I'll drop you a line.

"Germans" did not start on this board. Neither did the legit WYHI or the PIITB.
Sorry.
Sorry.

Basically, it means old news. It originally started out, someone posted a newspaper headline of "Japs bomb Pearl Harbour" after a repeated post. It then progressed to the Belushi saying of "when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor. I wish we'd go back to posting old headlines again, like "America lands on Moon!"
