yeah i know its against a depleted defense but im still impressed lets hope it caries into the rest of the season.

OK. What was it on 3rd down when we needed him to keep the drive going?

There's more to game than mere stats
Posted on 9/5/10 at 9:31 am to catholictigerfan
It would be in the 80's if he would learn to check off his receivers down field. The o-line gave him the time

That means nothing if we can't control the ball and move the chains. Classic example of stats don't tell the whole story.

most were short, quick passes to the first look WR. JJ still looks scared and nervous in the pocket.

Dude, their entire starting secondary was out.

who cares about the %. He threw for 3 yards we we need 6 and 7

And yet the offense still couldn't sustain a drive or be productive. The offense was basically the same old cow dung as last year
JJ is atrocious

And only 150 yds, on a depleted defense with 3 5* receivers.
I think I could have accomplished that.

some of you people can't just give JJ credit for having a good game.
yeah he made some short passes that should have gone longer
he souldn't have thrown that INT but that was more on the line
but still
nice down field pass for TD
nice pass under pressure for TD
and plenty of good short passes which lead to first downs
from where i was he had a good game, just a couple of not so great plays.

He HAS to let the ball go earlier...especially on the deep routes. He had to throw the ball on a line and take a hit in the chin on the Randle throw because he held the ball too long. If he had done it correct, the ball would have left his hand as Randle is flying by the DB with a little loft on it.
To his credit, he really did step up in the pocket on multiple occasions yesterday. He made two terrible decisions on the run. Other than that, he did ok.

Yes I did notice his pocket presence was much better but I beginning to wonder if he will EVER lose his gun shyness and throw the damn ball down field and let our star receivers go get it!

I dont understand why the receivers run 4 yard routes when we need 6.

How do you think he would have faired against UNC's starting secondary?
Posted on 9/5/10 at 9:39 am to hornets94
I will reserve judgement about JJ's improvement until I see him play in person. You can't see the whole field on tv like you do in person - that is, all the open routes happening. You're restricted to the camera's view. After the WVU game, I will have a much more clear picture of seeing if he has improved any.
But, from what I did see last night - he hasn't progressed in being able to think on the fly as a qb should with more experience under his belt. The intentional grounding penalty was indicative of that.
And his accuracy has not improved. We've been hearing all summer long about how hard he's worked going over unofficial passing drills with the receivers playing throw and catch. Yet he STILL is throwing the ball either way high or low on a quick pass which gives the defender that split second to catch up with the receiver and make the tackle.

Are you an alter of TheDoc? JJ would have been a decent Sunbelt QB, he doesn't belong in the SEC. Three yard dump passes when we have 5* wideouts running free in their secondary ain't gonna get it done.
Time to see if JL is over the yips and can bring his practice play to the games. I am ready to give high risk/high reward another try. Watching JJ attempting to drive what should be a Ferrari is painful.

That is just it. He didn't have a good game. Yates had a good game.

Jefferson is only acurate if he is throwing to a set receiver right off the snap. If he has time in the pocket you can bet that either he will wait too long or throw an INT. He has no ability to check off to his receivers.
This is coaching!

If you're speaking of the one to Reuben that pass took way too long to come out and it was way behind Reuben. All in all it turned out relatively lucky, IMO
