Let's Talk Cutdown to Final 53 Roster , LOOMIS DECLARES BACKUP QB

Coming into focus...
QB- It could be a straight out showdown for the number two spot next week. They could keep three but with the talent load I think two only. Either could probably picked up as a FA or from the UFL later if need be. Ramsey still gets the experience edge but Daniel the higher upside potential.
RB- Ivory asks Mike who? Lynell who? I think they keep Betts or Wynn as #4. Wynn might have an edge with age and ST play
WR- Roby has impressed as a legit #5 WR in addition to his KR & gunning skills. A push to keep Arrington as a #6. If he had more ST contribution it could have been locked. Another good week and he still makes my 53 tho.
OL- Pretty strong OT group with Streif and Brown as backups. I think they keep Leckey & Tennant cuz both can play C & G.
DE- Charleston & Wilkerson make the backups
DT- no change, Hargrove & Pressley
LB- Ingram is still a huge ? Can be a PUP option. I have Mitchell & Dunbar behind the starters. I have one more open LB spot to be won out of Arnoux, Asidou, Keasey, Coleman, and Waters. One other ya can try to get to the PS. Today I say Asidou or Keasey for ST play makes it.
DB- 4 top CB are locked. At safety I'm going with Sharper even tho there is still some possibility of being cut or PUPed. I think Prioleau has the #8 DB spot. I have an opening for one more between Usama, Reis, and Vaughn. Vaughn might be edged out by being PS eligible.
My outright cuts-
Tanner
Canfield
Mailei
McKie
Goddard
McCray
Torrence
DT Ross or Woods, better one ya try to get to PS
the loser of Betts & Wynn for the #4 RB
4 of these, one to PS- Arnoux, Asidou, Keasey, Coleman, and Waters
Ramsey or Daniel loser
Parnell or Metcalf, better one ya try to get to PS
My final spot is either Reis or Usama, the other makes 53
Practice Squad-
Lorenzen
Reggie Jones or Vaughn
Galette
Billings
Brandon Carter
Parnell or Metcalf winner
Ross or Woods winner
one LB

How many TEs do we keep?
Posted on 8/28/10 at 10:53 am to SNAPPERHEAD
Payton has gone 4 pretty consistently. With Graham dinged all the more so. Shockey, Thomas, Graham, Humphrey on my 53. Lorenzen practice squad.

i think torrence makes the 53 and only three tight ends.
Posted on 8/28/10 at 1:18 pm to drake20
3 tight ends with Graham's high ankle sprain= 2 TE's. If he was healthy, playing, and a proven product it could be possible. Almost a forced 4 as is.
Torrence has been torched more than Usama and about the same as Prioleau IMO. They win over him for being able to play both corner and safety to me. Prioleau is a GW favorite as a coach on the field too.

I think Vaughn is on the squad, and I think that Reis, Torrence, and Prioleau fight it out this week for the last DB spot.
I say only three TEs, even with Graham hurt for a while.
I also agree with your selections of Charleston and Wilkerson at DE -- Charleston surprised me a little last night and looked like our third best DE.
Al Woods is the biggest disappointment of the draft. He gets cut and has to hope he gets on the practice squad.

QB (3): Brees, Ramsey, Daniel
Could be 2. If that's the case, I give the edge to Ramsey due to experience.
RB (4): Thomas, Bush, Ivory, Wynn
Top 3 are set. I give the edge to Wynn for ST play.
FB (1): Evans
Set.
WR(6): Colston, Henderson, Meachem, Moore, Roby, Arrington
Arrington could be left off, or we could see someone like Moore or Henderson moved before the start of the season.
TE (3): Shockey, Thomas, Graham
Wouldn't be surprised if Humphrey made the team as the #4 TE.
OT (4): Bushrod, Stinchcomb, Strief, Brown
Set.
OG (3): Evans, Nicks, Tennant
Set.
C (2): Goodwin, Leckey
Only possible shakeup on the line is if the team keeps Metcalf over Leckey (highly unlikely). In that case, Tennant moves to backup C.
DE (4): Smith, Brown, Wilkerson, Charleston
Best guess, this could be a toss-up behind the starters. Charleston gets the nod for ST play.
DT (4): Ellis, Ayodele, Hargrove, Pressley
Pretty much set. Unless the team decides to keep 5 DT's and Woods on the roster.
OLB (4): Casillas, Shanle, Arnoux, Dunbar
Another toss up behind the two starters.
MLB (2): Vilma, Mitchell
Set.
CB (4): Greer, Porter, Gay, Robinson
Pretty much set.
S (6): Jenkins, Harper, Prioleau, Vaughn, Reis, Young
Young gets a spot for versatility, Prioleau is GW's adopted son, Reis may very well be the new ST captain, Vaughn for his upside.
K (1): Hartley
P (1): Morstead
LS (1): Kyle
Special teamers are set.

Are you expecting Sharper to be cut or PUP?
I think Reis is gone.

Roby running the wrong route which led to the INT last night may have sealed his fate. Dude is useless as a WR.

he also made a great catch and is our best returner.
sealed his fate?

Seems like Roby has been on the bubble for the past two years.
I'll take Bush/Meach/Devery as return men over Roby. ETA: or lance moore for that matter.

I think Sharper and Ingram are gonna start the season on the PUP. Reis could very well be cut to make room for another TE or DL.

well yeah, but Payton isn't going to risk injury to his big weapons on offense
also, Bush sucks as a KR. He didn't even do it at USC

you realize that they've all returned a ton for the saints, right?
eta: see 2008, when PT led the saints in rushing AND had the most kick returns.

a ton? Maybe when they were rookies but not a ton
and for PT in 08, want that his rookie year? Doubt he even gets a KR this year. Roby is a solid returner and 6th WR (Colston, Henserson, Meachem, Moore, Arrington)
Posted on 8/28/10 at 4:44 pm to blueslover
I'll be happy if Arrington and Ivory make the roster.
