LSU ATLANTA'S KICKOFF FAN GUIDE
Posted on 8/24/10 at 8:47 am
Posted on 8/24/10 at 8:47 am
The 1,000 + member Atlanta alumni chapter has produced a Kickoff Fan Guide with info on everything going on downtown and elsewhere for the kickoff weekend. We do this as a service to the LSU Nation whenever the Tigers play in ATL.
Go to LSU Atlanta - Fan Guide (www.LSUatlanta.com) for complete info.
In addition to official events, LSU Atlanta has several other options for places and activities where LSU fans are welcomed and supported all year round in ATL. Why spend money at a place that hangs a UGA or Ga. Tech banner every weekend except when you are there? Pfffft!!
Latest News: LSU Tiger Band members will perform at the Tiger Kickoff Bash on Friday night at the Tabernacle! Add Amanda Shaw, Travis Matte and Bag of Donuts to the main stage and the roof is going to blow off the sucka! Well worth the concert ticket.
We have set up Sidebar at 59 Poplar St. (2 minute walk from CNN Center) as our official tailgate bar for Friday and Saturday. Plan to meet your friends from all over there. Not only is it a comfortable and affordable hangout, the chapter will earn 10% of all sales for our scholarship fund!
You can download and print the Fan Guide to bring along. There's even tips for where to find the cheapest gas between Mobile and ATL!
Travel safe and come see us in ATL!
(Admin: Can you make this a sticky thread and I'll come back to answer any questions several times before the game? THANKS!)

Someone on the radio this morning in BR was wanting to warn folks that the downtown area restaurants and such are going to be very crowded that weekend with freaks in town for dragon con or whatever the hell it is. They are even going to have a parade downtown.
Should be fun watching the LSU fans interact with the sci-fi dorks.

Mentioned the other weirdness going on in the Fan Guide under the What The Heck Was That? section. There's DragonCon, a Black Gay Pride Festival in Midtown and a NASCAR race weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
With all of that going on, I figure every Bama fan for 300 miles will be in ATL too!

Not only is DragonCon going on, there is also a Black Gay Pride parade as well as Nascar races at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
This should be an interesting weekend!!

Hampton is well south of Downtown though. This really shouldn't be a problem for the game.

true, but I was talking about traffic, etc getting into Atlanta from that direction.
On a side note, the Atlanta Cup, a major club soccer tournament, is also going on that weekend.

The downtown places we are recommending are Sidebar, Pittypat's Porch and Ted's Montana Grill. Ted's (GM is a La. boy) will likely be slammed, and we hope Sidebar will be busy but it will be all LSU fans. Decent little kitchen - great Cuban sandwich. Pittypat's is a little more upscale, really a great choice if you want to meet friends in a less noisy Old South environment and want some really good vittles and signature drinks.
On Saturday I'll be at the Game Day set in the park early, then get something to snack on with a toddy at Pittypat's right up Andrew Young, then saunter over to Sidebar and get right until 3 or 4 and then go troll the parking lots to high five P&G folks and taunt the powder blue with Tiger Baits.

...Thanks for the info! Can't wait!

Sidebar is great place to meet up with folks. Comfortable unpretentious neighborhood bar with better drink prices than most of the traps around downtown.
They stay open til 3 on weekends so it's a good place to go after the Friday concert and (hopefully) for a victory lap after the game.

Anyone else planning to just take MARTA in for the game? I'm out in Gwinnett and will probably drive as far as the Doraville or Chamblee station.
Just not worth the hassle of post-game traffic.

...A lot of my friends ride the Marta. Parking is very expensive around the dome. For a couple of bucks, you can be let right off at a station next to the dome.
Only problem is the crowd getting back on can be long and there can be some delays following a game. But, overall well worth the savings.

As the fan guide says, check www.itsmarta.com for schedules as they don't run around the clock. They might add more runs and operate later with all of the downtown events like Dragoncon going on too. So check back.
Kudos to the LSU Atlanta folks for putting that together. I'll be knocking 'em back at the Tabernacle Friday and Sidebar before going on the prowl Saturday afternoon.

Cowboy Mouth will be playing at Park Tavern Friday Night!!

Think floor tickets for the kick-off will be available that night?
$25 is high enough, and ticketmaster wants to add another $10/ticket.

Should be plenty of room for walk ups. And the promoter gets nothing from and has nothing to do with the convenience fee from Ticketmaster/Live Nation. It's irritating for everyone (artists included) except the ticket service, believe me. But whatcha gonna do, it is the perfect location for this show and it is a legitimate concert budget that requires a concert ticket price.
You can go to Midtown and pay $15 to listen to a band called Hot Sauce from North Carolina at a street party. Not knocking that option, just saying everything you do for entertainment is going to cost a bit in Atlanta.
I'll remind folks again that one reason the alumni are working with Sidebar as our gathering place for the weekend is that there is no cover and the drinks and food are priced like the neighborhood bar that it is. Go spend some bucks to get a great show at the Tabernacle and make up the difference Saturday with good times at good prices at Sidebar before you dive into the crowd going to the Dome.

If I were everyone I would stay in Buckhead for the majority of the weekend. Plenty of places to eat, bars, and easy to get around. Downtown and Midtown will be a disaster. There are plenty of sports bars in Buckhead to watch some games before kickoff Saturday (i.e. Tavern 99, Hudson Grille, Fado, to name a few). Just my recommendation. And those wondering about Marta, yes its the easiest and best way to get to the dome, no parking, and it gets rowdy after the game when we whip some Carolina arse.

Thanks. I wad purchasing 10 tickets and $250 tickets turned into $350.
We are definitely hitting up the tabernacle and will just get tickets at the door.
