Was flipping through the stations and caught a few minutes of the WSOP on ESPN. Saw something I've never encountered, Darvin Moon had the nut flush after the river, it was heads up, the other player checked, Moon checked the nut hand and was immediately called for a penalty. Has anyone ever seen this prior?

I read somewhere tHere was some sort of weird move by someone, and that checking that flush last was in fact a penalty

I'm going googling

The board was garbage, and Moon claimed he didn't bet it so he could see the other guys cards as he figured he wouldn't get a call.....I didn't understand it at the time, but I guess given the explanation it makes a little sense.

The explanation given by the commentators was that it could possibly give the appearance of collusion between two players. He was only penalized one hand.

yeah Norm Chad said it was a penalty I believe to not bet the nuts then. It had to do with collusion with other players.

The other players knew the rule too, which surprised me. Seemed pretty damn obscure.

Collusion is the correct answer. If someone is last to act and doesn't bet the nut hand that is pretty suspect.

But Moon's explanation actually made some sense. He "knew" the other guy wouldn't call a bet and wanted to see his hand.

What if someone bets into you and you have the absolute nuts. Are you required to raise?

I suppose the fact that money has been put into the pot on the river is a sign against collusion

I agree with Kafka too. That should be a judgment call, and it's pretty damn clear that Moon was colluding there.

in that situation Moon wanted to see his opponents hand to get information. if he bets then the guy folds and he doesn't know what he played.

correct. I don't think what Moon did was deserving of a penalty.
