If Austin and Little do not play, does UNC...

have any other stand out players? The only other player I know of on their team on either side of the ball is Yates (the QB) and he is nothing to write home about...Anyone else in their lineup to look out for that would possibly give us matchup problems??
just curious...

saw a feed the other day saying the outlook is not very good for Austin playing...maybe little...i can't beleive butch wouldn't be able to pull some strings and just get a 1st quarter suspension or some BS like that...

They got a couple 6'10" running backs and a 7'0" receiver I'm been hearing about. True freshman!! Got that from an insider at UNC. Hell its basketball country that's all I'm been hearing about. It won't matter after we spank some tarheel arse!!!

If they lose Little, they are screwed on offense. They do EVERYTHING they can to get the ball in his hands - screens, reverses, short passes, long passes. He's a very good player and is quite possibly the only true difference-maker they have on offense.

They still have a very good defense, but if Little doesn't play, its not looking too great for their offense.

Robert Quinn DE is really good. Think he had heart or brain surgery his SR year in high school. Didnt know if he would play again. Think hes a JR.

Little is arguably their most valuable player because they lack a multitude of offensive threats although Boyd is turning it on.
However, Robert Quinn (IMO of course) is the best player we will play all season regardless of position; he is a monster stud.

Guess we will find out how the Barksdale move to the other side is going work right out of the gate then?

Report from yesterday stated that Little was cleared, but Austin would have a one game suspension. Also, all we have been hearing about is how they have like 4 1st rounders on defense so there will still be some studs on that side of the ball.

I expect Little to play against LSU, but I do think his impact will be minimalized by Peterson. Should be an incredibly physical matchup, as both are big, strong players for their position. Will definitely be some extracurricular activity there IMO, and wouldn't be surprised to see an unsportsmanlike or 2.
As for other star players, DE Robert Quinn is an athletic specimen and a beast on the DL. Projected top 10 pick.
Quan Sturdivant, Bruce Carter, and Kevin Reddick make up one of the best LB corps in the nation. Sturdivant and Carter are both late 1st round projections, and Reddick is very underrated, IMO.
FS Deunta Williams and CB Kendric Burney are the stars in the secondary. Williams is borderline 1st/2nd rounder, and I think Burney would be if not for his height (about 5'9"). Also have a couple of other guys who are sure to be drafted in SS Danorris Searcy and CB Charlie Brown. All 4 are seniors.
On offense, TE Zach Pianalto is Yates' go-to receiver (even with Little). He can stretch the field a bit, but we seem to run him more in the short passing game (was very effective particularly against VT last year). Another playmaker to watch is Jhay Boyd, a 6'2" SO WR. Blazing speed who showed a lot of playmaking ability in his FR season. The WR corps as a whole was very young outside of Little last year, so we'll need them to build on last season to have a good year this year.
As far as RBs go, Gio Bernard was a highly touted FR RB that tore his ACL last week, but we do have SRs Shaun Draughn and Ryan Houston back there. Definitely a thunder and lightning combo (although Draughn doesn't necessarily have game-breaking speed). The word on Houston is that he's in the best shape of his life (down to about 235 from 274 as a freshman) so he could see a more expanded role than just short yardage situations like his first couple of years. Expect to see a lot of end-around fakes using the RBs and WRs in an attempt to trick a young and fast defense. Seems to be Shoop's MO.
Sorry for being long-winded, but thats the short-and-sweet of it. We've got a very veteran team this year. Lots of SRs and JRs with 2-3 years of starting experience on both sides of the ball.
Let's just hope for an injury free training camp so both teams are as close to 100% as possible!

no legitimate news sources have published anything in regard to whether anybody will or won't play for sure.
Here is an article that tells which players will take the place of any starters who might have to sit:

If Austin doesn't play it will be:

The most telling sign is that promising junior defensive end Quinton Coples, a potential star who had 22 tackles and four sacks as a backup last season, has been shifted to tackle since the start of fall camp last week.
Maybe it’s only a coincidence that Coples is suddenly getting a crash course on playing Austin’s position since the Tar Heels are well-stocked on the outside and Davis is concerned about his depth on the line.
More than likely though, the move was made so that someone – and someone talented – would ready to step in and be ready to play once the NCAA finally gets around to dropping the hammer on Austin for his alleged improper conduct with a sports agent.
“We started talking last year about the possibility of (moving Coples and) getting the four best athletes onto the field at the same time,” Davis said. “Obviously with the uncertainty of Marvin Austin, that made it a more prudent decision.”
If Little doesn't play it will be one of these receivers:
quote:
Davis is also spending a lot of time early in camp preparing young wide receivers Jheranie Boyd, Erik Highsmith, Dwight Jones, Joshua Adams and Todd Harrelson just in case Little, the team’s top pass-catcher last season, is also unavailable.
Because Little does not seem to be as involved as Austin in the swirling controversy that has now grown to include defensive line coach John Blake and former Tar Heel star Kentwan Balmer, there seems to be a better chance that he may escape with at least some of his eligibility intact.
Until the NCAA comes to a final decision – and it doesn’t look like that will happen today, despite published reports to the contrary – the two players in question continue to practice with the first team in preparation for UNC’s season opener against LSU in Atlanta on Sept. 4.
