Chavis's "crowd the box with speed, size and numbers" approach

I am getting amped up with what I am hearing from the Chief.
I think there are hints that the sizeable Brockers and Davenport are emerging as the DT's that may join Nevis at DT, and we know that Kelvin Shepard at Mike adds beef and strength up the middle.
Chavis will let Mo and PP do their lockdown corner magic, while freeing up 2 speedy DE's, Baker and Francois and the safeties into the box for run support/blitzing, or to drop back in coverage.
That formula sound a lot like the overall 2003 formula, with Corey Webster an Travis Daniels, et al...
You can tell that Chavis is drooling at the mouth now that he has the exact type of speed and size and players he wants for his 2nd year heading the D.
Look for great things with this formula.

Since you're looking, you will be rewarded with plenty of it... seeing that the D will be on the field for about 88 plays and 38 minutes per game.

I guess it comes down to trusting your judgement or the Chief's.

Overpopulating the box on defense is not ideal. Ideally you can stop the run without putting 8 in the box.
Chavis knows we will likely HAVE TO in order to stop power rushing teams. This will put a great deal of pressure on our corners.
Fortunately we have corners that will allow it if they perform up to the hype.
I'm excited to see the speed from the edge, but we will be giving up something against the run when those 330 pound tackles get a hold of 250 pound ends.

Why would we have to in order to stop a power rushing team? fwiw we only play one of those this year.

Bama may be the only solid power rushing teams, but most of our opponents will favor the run overall however.
I think we play 6 teams breaking in new QBs?

where'd you read that about him?

True, but with 2 lockdown corners, 3 beefy inside run stoppers (Nevis, Brockers/Davenport, Sheppard), and 6 speedsters that are able to either blitz or drop back in coverage, it sure makes for a hard situation for the many first-time QB's who are trying to establish a running game on us when they see the aggressive speedsters edging up towards the line/box on first and second down (especially).

That's pretty much the opposite of what Chavis said.

Chavis was really excited about Brockers. He said his will be a name you need to know. That says something.

Hogwash. Go haunt another board.

as always, it comes down to the 2 most important positions on D...CB and DE

will be interesting to see Mingo drop into a zone, or possibly snag a pass to the flats. With his speed, could be money.

OH! SLOW! Such wisdom! Where did you get it from wise arse master? Give me a frickin break and let the lst game of the season begin. We are very capable of making up our own minds as to what we see. How old are you oh great one?

You should definitely look into studying his ways.

Never saw him in high school? He started the year at safety. I say with no sarcasm at all, he has to have the worst hands on LSU's team. He is an absolute monster on the end and can cover very well. His hands though...

The power rushing teams are the ones I think we match up with best. It's the spread option teams that we have struggles with. So, stacking the box to stop plays like the Gators ran over and over is a good thing. Our DB's are where we are strongest. Think about the Jet's defense. Everything hinges on the play of their secondary.
